Works in Progress

Yesterday before work, I was able to finish the blocks for one of the signature swaps I am in.

That is what 60 4.5″ blocks look like! I still need to sign them. Next I need to focus on the 60 blocks needed for the other swap I am taking part in. These blocks are 6.5″ and I have 12 complete.

The first step is creating the flying geese units.

Today, I hope to get 8 blocks done. It always helps to break a big job up into small parts. Which leads me to this:

Yuck. I detest exercise. My initial goal is just to get on it for 30 minutes 3x a week. Day one is done. Maybe next time I should turn it on? JK!
I am definitely a work in progress!

‘Tis better to give….

….or at least more fun! While I was home, I was able to give my niece Livy, her graduation quilt!

And she loved it!

I also gave the Coast Guard quilt to my brother.

Sorry about the terrible pictures. I need to slow down and not rush that part! He was very surprised as well and loved the Coast Guard fabric.

Today, it is back to work!

Weekend in Wisconsin

I got a late start leaving Michigan on Thursday so I spent the night in a hotel on the way. I decided to pull a Bonnie Hunter:

Still crazy…

First, I would like to say thanks so much for all of your comments and encouragement. It means so much that you all take the time to comment here! I try to respond to all by e-mail but I don’t always get to it. This is where the Brother quilt stands right now:

I even got my laundry done and went to an art quilt meeting yesterday! I am still debating the quilting. The border will probably get a simple loopy meander since it is fast and won’t show anyway. I would really like to do feathers in the star diamonds but I am not sure I brave enough! On the Home Quilting Systems Yahoo group, many people have posted pics of their Carpenter Star quilts quilted with feathers based on lessons by Judy at Patchwork Times. They are so beautiful!
And I forgot to post a picture if my July challenge quilt for the Small Quilt stalk group.

I have to work 1-9 today so I need to get as much done as possible before then. Have a great day everyone!

Just call me crazy….DWM

I had a coupon so I stopped by JoAnn’s to for a little look see. And I found this:

Coast Guard fabric! My brother served on the Coast Guard after high school and his birthday is next week. Hmmmm… I am going to Wisconsin to visit my family this weekend and will see him. Could I? Should I? Am I crazy?

Yep. I washed fabric, cut pieces, and started stitching late last night. I need to get the top done and loaded into the frame by bed time tonight if there is a prayer to get this done before Thursday. I also need to work this week, do laundry, and get ready to go. But I know he will love this….

I am linking up with Judy at Patchwork Times for Design Wall Monday.

Bonus round Yahtzee!

I was looking through Craigslist and found that someone listed a quilt top for $15. The pictures were very blurry. Here is part of the ad:20130804-200637.jpg
I figured it would be a good top to practice machine  quilting anyway so I contacted the seller and made arrangements to buy it. I was thrilled to find it was a 1930’s Grandmother’s Flower Garden!20130804-200819.jpg
The fabrics are delightful!20130804-200853.jpg20130804-200900.jpg20130804-200908.jpg

Some of the pieces are pieced.

Some of this is machine pieced but most is by hand. Now I have another quandary…should I machine quilt this? If so, how would you quilt it?

Sunday

Last night, I printed off the pattern for the August challenge for the Small Quilt Talk group. I figured out which dies I could use and picked out scraps for the 9 patches. I cut out pieces before dinner. Before bed I decided to piece just one block…..

20130804-093224.jpg
Hmm…. I thought hubby was still up so I started auditioning backgrounds and borders.

20130804-093332.jpg
It was quite late and I was surprised he was still up. Oops….turns out he was sleeping long before I started my blocks. Oh well.

The pattern is by Kathy Tracy from A Sentimental Quilter. It is a freebie on her blog.

This morning I am reflecting on the goodness of God in all things.

2Let my whole being bless the Lord
and never forget all his good deeds:
3how God forgives all your sins,
heals all your sickness,
4saves your life from the pit,
crowns you with faithful love and compassion,
5and satisfies you with plenty of good things
so that your youth is made fresh like an eagle’s.
From Psalm 103
