Design Wall Monday

I am back to thinking about the album blocks. This is how I wanted to set them:

That was before I realized that I do not have enough of the paisley for sashing. Now I am thinking of going with this:

20140427-233318.jpg
I need to make a decision soon.

I also started working on this UFO. It is on my list for the Q2 FAL 2014.20140427-233414.jpg
I made this several years ago but it never got finished because it didn’t lay flat. The center is a mountain peak! I decided today to put two circles of poly batting in the center to take up some fullness. Then I loaded it in the frame with a layer of Warm and Natural. My goal is just to get it flat and to keep the labyrinth round. I like the idea I had but my execution of the raw edge reverse appliqué was not good.

The first step was to outline the black. Then I used a “scribbling” motion to quilt down and secure the black areas of the labyrinth. This will never be perfect but it will get finished!

Baby Shower and Nursery Project

The Shower was wonderful yesterday!

Friday, Daughters # 1 and 3 went garage saling with me. It was great fun! Daughter #1 found the exact rocker she wanted for the nursery a white glider. It had brown cushions but we took care of that Friday evening! I recovered the cushions with fabric I had found at Good Will out in Arizona while shopping with Dear DIL.

Another Q2 FAL 2014 Finish!

I finished another item off my list last week. My original list of goals can be found here. All it needed was the facing and hanging sleeve.

20140427-072431.jpg
This piece measures about 20″ square. It has been in UFO status for a couple years. So it feels good to call it done! In May it will hang in a local show along with other pieces by members of my art quilt group.

Another Shirting Quilt

Today is Daughter #2’s baby shower! I can still hardly believe she is pregnant and Baby Q is due in just 7 weeks! Here is the quilt I will be giving her today.

20140426-060130.jpg
Sorry for the not so great picture. It rained all day yesterday so I couldn’t get outside for a better one. Here is a peek at the back:

20140426-060300.jpg
I actually had this made before she was even married and put it away. I got one of Son in Law’s shirts as well as one from my dad and included bits of these in the label. I need to get one from my Father in Law for future use!

And yes, if you’ve been counting, this is the third quilt for this baby!

Here is a sneak peek at the shower decorations.

Finish it up Friday

Today I am sharing with you my finished Color Bars quilt.

20140424-213745.jpg
It measures 42″ x 60.” I used Glide thread in Cool Grey and a low loft Pellon Poly batting.

20140424-213925.jpg
Because I started with a jelly roll of solids, I didn’t prewash any of the fabrics. These pictures show the quilt after washing.

20140424-214035.jpg
This will go to Quilts Beyond Borders. It was a fun quilt to make, both in terms of piecing and quilting.

Ugggg……

I am almost done adding triangles to the album blocks.

20140423-194952.jpg
I started figuring out how many pieces of sashing and how many cornerstones I would need to complete the top. I pulled out the fabric I had purchased for the sashing, border, and binding.

20140423-195145.jpg
Only to find that I don’t have near enough! Ugggg!!!!! This is an older fabric line and I am not sure I can find anymore.

Time to tweak my design. Sigh….

Work in Progress Wednesday

The quilting has started. I’m not in love with it right now but hopefully I will like it better when it is gone.

Progress

I made a bit of progress yesterday on two different projects. First, the solids project. I got the top together after a bit of trimming of the blocks.

20140421-214917.jpg
Unfortunately, the top was a few inches shy if the size required for Quilts Beyond Borders.

20140421-215125.jpg
I added three inch borders after I took this photo and got it loaded onto the frame for quilting.

I cut all the corner triangles for the album blocks also.

20140421-215522.jpg
Now I have 59 more blocks to add corners to.

20140421-215706.jpg
And this is what I am listening to while working:

Hoping to get a little quilting in before work today. I am linking up with Connie at Free Motion By the River for Linky Tuesday.

Design Wall Monday

I finished making blocks with the solids jelly roll. I didn’t use the white strips, they just looked too stark. I will probably make a few more blocks  out of my stash so this will end up the right size for Quilts Beyond Borders. I have been playing with layouts but I think I like this best.

20140421-072422.jpg
I will use a solid gray for blocks in between. This will be a great top for practicing machine quilting.

We had a wonderful Easter. Here are Daughters #1 and 3.

20140421-072819.jpg
And my son sent me these photos of himself with Baby L.

Slow Stitching on Easter Sunday

Church was wonderful, dinner was tasty, kids were delightful. Now the dishes are done and the house is quiet so it is time to do some hand stitching on my hexies. My top is growing little by little’

20140420-181511.jpg
See that green stuff around the edges? Real grass!

Hope you get a chance to do a little slow stitching today as well. Linking up with Kathy at Kathy Quilts.
