Aren’t they beautiful? If you would like some of your own, head over to Vicki’s site by clicking here.

I got the baseboards painted yesterday.

And am I glad I did! Hubby worked so hard getting them installed in the area behind the frame.

Then he fixed these white cabinets so they could be set in place and I can start filling them up!

20140610-071618-26178358.jpg
We purchased these cabinets before we moved to France back in 1997. The house we lived in had no bathroom storage and very few kitchen cabinets and these served us well. We hauled them back across the pond in 2000 and they stored our homeschooling materials. I had three in my previous sewing room and now I have all 5! Of course, they still need to house office supplies and such.

I have much work to do before the day job so have a great Tuesday everyone!

Design Wall Monday

I made a few more 4 patches this weekend. I’ve used all different reds, blues, and neutrals. Now I am trying to decide if I will be happy with neutrals ranging from white white to nearly tan.

20140609-063143-23503226.jpg

Much time this weekend was spent on the floor in the sewing room. We are so close to being done with that!

20140609-063311-23591806.jpg
Just a bit in the corner and the closet to do.

20140609-063350-23630568.jpg
I was finally able to begin putting a few things back in also. Oh happy day!

20140609-063433-23673272.jpg
I took a trip to Harbor Freight with Mr. Wonderful also. I had been looking at a small rolling cart on the IKEA website but saw this and brought it home.

20140609-063628-23788971.jpg
It measures 16″ x 30″ and just happened to come in my favorite color :). It was on sale and we had a 25% off coupon so it came to $39 and some change. I think this will be really handy.

My job today will be to paint all this:

Slow Stitching Sunday

I am generally an early riser. This morning, I am enjoying a bit of hand stitching while listening to a gentle, much needed rain outside my window. I love it when the rain is gentle and the wind calm so that the windows can be open while it rains! Here are my ugly mugs getting bound:

Yesterday was another beautiful day here. In the morning, Mr. Wonderful and I went garage saleing with Daughter #1 and SIL. That baby should be here any day now!

20140608-073631-27391998.jpg
We found some fun baby things. I thought Daughter #3 might appreciate this:

20140608-073718-27438481.jpg
We all had a good laugh over it!

I forgot to mention this book.

20140608-073802-27482851.jpg
I listened to this while folding fabric Friday on the 70th anniversary of D-Day. It was excellent. These men were true heroes.

Here is a link to a moving D-Day tribute created on the beach at Arromanche, France. I have stood on this very beach many times and every time it gave me chills.

It has been said:

Folding Fabric

I had yesterday off of work and spent most of the day sorting and re-folding my fabric stash.

20140606-212448-77088793.jpg
Here is how I do it. First lay the fabric out folded selvedge to selvedge and the fold in half again lengthwise like this:

20140606-212607-77167831.jpg
I use a 6″ x 12″ ruler and roll the fabric around it.

20140606-212712-77232286.jpg

20140607-064010-24010129.jpg
I tuck the raw edge in when I get to the end and slide the ruler out.

20140607-064114-24074999.jpg
It all would have ended up much neater but I didn’t iron as I went and fabrics are not all exactly the same width to begin with. It is much better than it was.
Hmmm….. I think I need more reds!

20140607-064325-24205545.jpg
Mr. Wonderful and I were up late again last night working on the floor. We are getting closer!

Finish it up Friday!

I have one small finish this week:

20140605-210254.jpg
This little quilt sat as a UFO for a long time. I’m not in love with it but it is done. It will probably land on a table somewhere.

My big finish for the week is the painting in the new sewing room! Yay! So happy to say that is all done. And last night we started the flooring!

20140605-210513.jpg
I so hope we can get that done this weekend. I can’t wait to get my long arm set up again!

HSTeria Top

I finished my little HSTeria top yesterday.

20140605-050314.jpg
It measures 20″ square at present. I have no idea how I will quilt it.

I can’t believe how many of you said, “Don’t throw away the scraps!” LOL! I didn’t. When it came down to it, I had to use them. I made three mug rugs and can say that I used every stinking bit of those Kaffe charms! Having said that, these are pretty ugly mug rugs and are much more likely to get used than the first one I made.

20140605-050724.jpg

20140605-050731.jpg

20140605-050740.jpg
I’m not a pastel girl so it’s no wonder that these are the scraps left at the end.

I finished a little project at work yesterday too.

20140605-050916.jpg
Do you like my freshly painted book cart? My supervisor at work let us each paint our own cart whatever color we wanted. We have magenta, orange, red, purple, etc. I am really pleased with how mine turned out. It’s the little things, people!

Work in Progress Wednesday

Working until 9 last night meant no work in the sewing room for me. Hubby worked hard on the office though. He is in the stage where things look worse before they get better! Lots of sorting going on. I did work on my HSTeria project a bit.

20140604-060834.jpg
I have 41 more HSTs I can add. Weird number, I know. I will probably add a row to the top and left side and throw the extras away because I don’t want to look at them any more!

I also found a few containers of red, white, and blue scraps and chopped them into 2.5″ squares to make more 4 patches.

20140604-061226.jpg
And in the category of “Things that make you go, hmmmm…..”, I checked my email on my phone last night and found this:

20140604-061339.jpg
What? I have unread emails from 1969? They later disappeared.

Weird.

ETA: I have been scouring internet land for sewing room ideas and found Janet’s blog, Simply Pieced. She has just redone her room and it looks amazing! You can check it out here. If you have pictures on your blog of your sewing area, please send me a link! I think I am going to do a post later this week or next with links to great sewing spaces.

Sewing Room Progress and HSTs

I got one more HST block made last night.

20140602-212407.jpg
I am trying to evenly distribute lights and darks but am not concerned with color placement. I have the next one all set out in case I find a few minutes to sew.

20140602-212514.jpg
Mr. Wonderful was off yesterday and got the computer set up and lots of work done in the office. I moved a lot of stuff from the new sewing room into the office so we can get ready to do the floor in there. My big job this week is to finish painting in there and the stairway.

Remember my old sewing desk that Mr. Wonderful modified for me?

20131219-215837.jpg

I bought this steel case desk from a thrift store for $25 and He made it so I could set my machines in it flush with the desk top.

Yesterday, he suggested giving it a makeover with white paint. It isn’t finished but already looks SO much better! I am really happy with how this is turning out!

20140602-212902.jpg
The little white dog has decided he likes the cement floor in the basement.

20140602-212956.jpg

20140602-213005.jpg
He really blends in! I had to pay attention so as not to trip over him.

Monday Morning

Yesterday was a lovely day. After church, we went to Daughter #1’s house for dinner. We came home and went back to work. Baseboards in the office are done.

20140602-101257.jpg
And Mr. Wonderful and I moved furniture into the office.

20140602-101341.jpg
Sadly, the sewing room still looks like this:

20140602-101438.jpg
But Rome wasn’t built in a day. Mr. Wonderful is home today so i need to get to working helping.

Slow Stitching Sunday

I hope to get to a little slow stitching in later today putting a binding on this little piece.

20140601-132001.jpg
I couldn’t find the walking foot for this machine or I would have added more quilting.

Yesterday, we took a break from the basement and went to the local antique fest. I saw this wonderful old quilt frame just covered with quilts.

20140601-132202.jpg
I found a couple nice enamel pans but that is all that followed me home.

This morning before church, I got the first coat of paint on the new baseboards for the office.
