Finish It Up Friday

Back in August, I pulled fabric for a wall quilt for my dear MIL. She asked me to make something for her guest room. I hadn’t used my hand dyed fabrics in a while and knew they would be perfect for this project.

But then they sat there…….for weeks. One day, inspiration hit out of the blue and I was on my way! I cut a bunch of 3 inch squares and began playing at the design wall.

The sewing went quickly. These little clips helped me to stay organized.

Then it was time for the quilting. I had fun quilting these free hand swirls!

A bit of binding and she was done!

I had a terrible time getting the colors to look right in the photos. The colors in the first picture are most accurate.

Now time to pop it in the mail! Hope you like it, Mama Mim!

Work in Progress Wednesday

I didn’t accomplish much yesterday, but I did consider my next steps for a couple of my WIPs. I still have these shirting bits:

IMG_0864.JPG
Not sure where to go from here.

I thought this top was nearly ready for the frame. Now I am thinking that maybe I want to make this big enough for my bed. Decisions, decisions.

IMG_0849-0.JPG
If I do decide to make this bigger, it will mean fabric shopping.

Tiny Prints Mug

A while ago Connie from Free Motion By the River shared a coupon code for a free mug from Tiny Prints. The code was for an 11 ounce mug or you could apply it toward a more expensive mug. I went for the bigger mug, 15 ounces.

I chose one of my favorite quilts to feature on it. I am quite pleased with how it turned out! Having said that, without the $15.99 off I got with the code, I probably would not have ordered it. It still cost $12, not bad but more than I would normally spend on a mug. Here is a picture of the whole quilt:

There is also a sneak peak of this in my header.

This and That

Insomnia can be good sometimes….it allowed me to get this top together yesterday morning before Baby E came for the day.

IMG_1556.JPG
I still need to add corner triangles and then it will be ready to quilt. Time to come up with a backing for it.

Baby E and I had fun taking a walk!

It was another lovely day here. Hope you are having a great week!

Design Wall Monday

Remember these blocks?

IMG_0795.JPG
I finally pulled them back out and started laying them out.

IMG_0806.JPG
I had planned to add the red as a straight border but I am loving it finished with setting triangles.

IMG_0807.JPG
I hope to get this top pieced this week.

It was such a wonderful weekend here in Michigan. The last several days have been sunny and warm, perfect fall weather. Here are a few snapshots from my weekend.

Finish It Up Friday

I finally have pics of my completed Quilt of Valor. Seems like I have had this one in process forever. So without further ado:

By the way, while I was still struggling with how to quilt this, I sent a picture to Kathleen at Kathleen Quilts. She is a master machine quilter. She took my picture and created a quilting plan! It was way better than my plan but since I had already started quilting, it was too late to change my plan. I wish I had waited! Click here to see what she would have done with my quilt!

Throwback Thursday

This is a quilt I made way back in 1998 when we lived in Chatou, France. Daughter #1 was just 9 at the time. She helped me hand quilt this in the Baptist fan pattern. I told her if she quilted two complete fans, she could put her name on the label. And she did!

IMG_1471.JPG
I love this quilt. I love the pattern, it was something I came up with to use up these random bow ties and stars. But it is so much more to me. I will never forget sitting at the frame with her. I just wish I had taken a picture!

Work in Progress Wednesday, I mean Thursday!

I managed to lose a day this week! Mr. Wonderful came home safely from China last night so yesterday was spent working and trying to finish up all the things around the house I wanted to do before he got home. Things like mowing the lawn and cleaning carpets. I did get the quilting done on the wall quilt I am making from my hand dyed fabric.

IMG_0816.JPG

IMG_0814.JPG
I dyed these fabrics myself a few years ago. All I have to finish on this one is the binding.

Vintage HST Mini Quilt

Sunday, I showed you bits of a little quilt I was working on made from vintage scraps. The binding is finished and here it is!IMG_0791.JPGI use a single fold binding technique on this and it turned out well except for one thing, I cut my strips too wide! I haven’t done a single fold in a while and had forgotten how narrow I need to cut my strips. I didn’t realize this until the binding was sewn to the front so it stayed that way.

IMG_0789.JPGNot perfect, but finished.  I had a bit of help with my hand stitching.

IMG_0783.JPGMy little quit finished up at 9″ by 12″. I used part of a feed sack for the back. The binding is a reproduction print in the perfect poison green. It is simply quilted in vertical lines.
