Design Wall Monday

This weekend was full of a little of this and a little of that. Daughter #3 has taken over my design wall with her not so secret project, here is a sneak peek.

IMG_1360.JPG
I am working out a quilting design for another Quilt of Valor.

IMG_1359.JPG
I embroidered names on stockings for the new additions this year.

IMG_1351.JPG
These are admittedly cheap stockings but they match the rest. Here’s a picture of the mantle from last Christmas.

IMG_1361.JPG
I think they will all have to move to the stair railing this year so they all fit!
#1 Son, Daughter in Love, and Baby L will be arriving in 12 days for an early Christmas with us! I cannot wait! But it does mean that I have to pick up the pace and get ready in a hurry.

I also started a stocking for Baby E to have at his house.

IMG_1358.JPG
I will need to make one for Baby L also.

Lots to do today to get ready for our early Thanksgiving dinner (Wednesday evening) so I better finish this coffee and get back to work!

Saturday Stitches

I really hadn’t intended to work steadily on all these QOV tops. I could tell you I am doing it because we have vets waiting for them (we do), or I could tell you again how we should give honor where honor is due ( it is), but the honest answer is that I am having so darn much fun quilting them! I loaded this one after work yesterday.

IMG_1345.JPG
I am using this panto:

IMG_1347.JPG
The backing is navy and most of the fabrics in the top are dark so I decided to use navy thread in the top and bobbin. I am using Premosoft by Fil-Tec.

Have a great Saturday!

Finish It Up Friday

Daughter #3 was working on a not so top secret project in my sewing room last night so I stayed up and quilted. And I finished the latest QOV from the Stitching Sisters QOV group. Please note, I didn’t piece this lovely top, I only quilted it.

IMG_1339.JPG
I did ruler work in the stars.

IMG_1336.JPG

IMG_1332.JPG
And a pantograph on the rest called Starstruck from Meadowlyon Designs. It has lots of big feathers with a few stars thrown in.

IMG_1337.JPG
I am working this morning and very much looking forward to the weekend!

I feel quite honored to have last week’s finish highlighted at Richard and Tanya Quilts this week!

Thursday

It has been a busy week around here! I did finally finish the quilting on the Quilt of Valor, though it sure doesn’t show up much in pictures.

And this is the next one on the frame.

I had just enough time before work to put in a few stitches. I love this top and can’t wait to get back to it after work today.

Tuesday

I had a great day with Baby E yesterday. He rolled over for the first time while he was here! However, he did not nap much. So this is all I got done while he was here.

IMG_1315.JPG
These are for the Cascadia Mystery quilt hosted by Humble Quilts. I am way behind on this project.

Last night I started quilting the next QOV.

IMG_1314.JPG
I can see looking at these pictures that I missed a line of quilting in the white. I hope to make progress on the quilting before work today but I won’t come close to finishing. I have errands to run, laundry to finish, and shopping to do.

Speaking of shopping, I was on Amazon last night and this popped up.

IMG_1317.PNG
Too funny! I am really struggling t come up with Christmas ideas this year. I want to fill that cart and give it purpose! I just don’t know what to fill it with!

And here is a picture of my little buddy during our walk yesterday.

I love those cheeks!

Design Wall Monday

I suppose this could be Design Frame Monday since the real designing will be happening in my head as I figure out how to quilt this next QOV.

IMG_1305.JPG

I finished this one last night.

IMG_1304.JPG
The pantograph is Loop the Loop by Barbara Becker from Urban Elementz. I used Glide thread.

This is what is actually on my design wall.

IMG_1306.JPG
That is all the star blocks I have completed so far. I haven’t made any progress on the Cascadia Mystery mini either.

I probably won’t get much done today either. But I will be enjoying the company of this little man!

Quilts of Valor

I’ve been making QOVs for a few years now. Recently, I signed up as a long armer to quilt tops made by other QOV volunteers. I am working with a Michigan group called the Stitching Sisters. I picked up a box of quilt tops/backings the other day and got the first one quilted yesterday. I don’t know the name of the pattern but I really like it!

IMG_1298.JPG
I finished the quilting last night.

IMG_1296.JPG

IMG_1299.JPG
I used a pantograph called Celtic Maze by Patricia Ritter from Urban Elementz. I used Affinity variegated thread in the top and Magnaglide bobbins in white for the back, Hobbs 80/20 batting. I love the texture on the back.

IMG_1295.JPG
The next top is loaded on the frame and ready to quilt!

Yesterday, I received a very special note in the mail from the daughter of a QOV recipient. I made the quilt last fall. He passed away on November 1st of this year. Here is the note.

IMG_1286.JPG
Yes, I cried.

Here is the quilt.

I don’t think any of us that have not served in the military have any real clue how profound the impact and sacrifice of serving really is. It is humbling to have a hand in saying thank you to our nation’s heroes. Raphael served in World War II. He was 90 years old when he passed into eternity.

To learn more about how you can help cover our nations heroes, go to Quilts of Valor Foundation. Can’t make a whole quilt or top? Alicia over at Alycia Quilts is holding a block drive.

I am still on part one even though part two has been posted. Maybe I’ll catch up this weekend.

Have a great Saturday!

Finish it up Friday

My finish for the week is the baby quilt for Daughter #3 to take to the baby shower.

IMG_1280.JPG
It was simple to piece and quick to quilt.

IMG_1279.JPG
The weather was not cooperating with my picture taking! It started raining as I was taking these. I Am pleased with how this turned out. It was quick to piece and quick to quilt. I had a blast making it!

Throwback Thursday

This is a quilt I made at nearly 20 years ago. It used to hang in our school room when we were homeschooling. I have always liked it. I didn’t use a pattern, just figured each letter out as I went.

IMG_1256.JPG
I machine quilted this with my 1955 Singer 201 with cross hatching in the center and the Baptist Fan pattern in the border. I marked everything before starting the quilting.

I had hubby hang this curtain rod up in my sewing room. I bought cafe rings/clips to make it easy to hang different quilts here. It is working out quite well!
