A Little Something

I mentioned that I found yet another UFO while digging through my 30s fabric .

Deanna suggested that I use them to make a pillow. I thought that was a great idea! In the process, I remembered why I set them aside in the first place. Can you tell?

At about the same time, I took a trip to TJMaxx and found this big pillow on clearance. It has a feather insert and this wasfar cheaper than buying just the insert.

I love a bargain! I quilted the top on the long arm. It took longer to load than to quilt.

Now to figure out how to put this together, have a great day!

Playing

I found these scraps while looking for something else and decided to play a bit.

I grabbed two strips and sewed them together.

Then I cut them in half and sewed them together again.

I have no idea if this is going anywhere, but I’ll forge ahead for now.

Have a great day!

Liberty Update

I decided to work on my Liberty quilt while pondering the big stitch quilting issue.

Ahhh….I love this so much! Now I’m trying to figure out what to use for a binding. I think it needs to be a solid. I’ve narrowed it down to one of these.

Decisions, decisions. Have a great day!

Big Stitch Quilting

I purchased this fun quilt top back in February. Since I finished quilting the last vintage top this weekend, I started thinking about doing this one next.

I’ve never done big stitch quilting with perle cotton, but I’m thinking of trying it out on this. I have this ball of vintage pearl cotton that I love.

Check out the price!

But this is all I have and I’m certain it isn’t enough. It may be too thick anyway. I’ve looked online and can’t seem to find any. Perhaps a solid color would be better on this busy top anyway. Looks like I will do a bit of shopping today. I plan to use this stencil, available from Fun with Barb.

First though, I’m off to Youtube to watch a few tutorials. Have a great day!

Slow Stitching Sunday

I’m still hand quilting this vintage top. I have made progress, though it has been slow going.

You can see better on the back how much is done.

I’m probably 75% or more done.

I just love these huge fans! Have a great day!

HOLD THE PRESSES!

Just in, the quilting is finished and I hope to get the binding started today!

Wish me luck!

This and That

I found this Windham panel at Good Will! It’s perfect for a QOV.

E1 has a birthday last week. Mom and Dad rented this huge bounce house. Everyone enjoyed it, even the adults.

It was 45 feet long and a bit big for their yard, so we had the party here.

Winslow and Willy dressed up for the occasion.

His gift from us was this RC Jeep. I kinda wanted to keep it for myself…

Daughter #2 gave me this tiny cactus when I was in AZ. Big L likes to name plants and he’s decided I should name this Cac-tee. 😁

Have a great day!

Finish It Up Friday ~ I Spy

This was such a fun quilt to make!

This is the panto I used. It is from Urban Elementz .

I cut the rectangles using my 3 by 6 inch (finished size) Accuquilt die.

I was running low on backing, so this just got plain muslin. Everything for this quilt came from my stash.

I used Cool Gray Glide thread and machine bound it in navy.

There are two of each print in the quilt.

Now all five of these quilts have been shipped and received. 😊

Have a great weekend!

QOV

Finally! I found inspiration for that Quilt of Valor I wanted to make!

This is a free pattern I found here.

In no time at all, I had all 12 blocks done. Here are 8 of them.

Time to cut some sashing and get this together. Have a great day!

Scrap Busting

This is a loooonnnnggggg post! I decided had to do something with my overflowing scrap buckets. I keep buckets for modern and reproduction fabrics. Solids and QOV scraps are also kept separate. This first one is a baby bathtub! Before:

After:

Another bucket before:

After:

These are the Accuquilt dies I used. Honestly, if I didn’t have my die cutter, these would likely have ended up in a bin!

This is how I cut my scraps. I press everything and lay them out on my die and run them through.

There is some waste. But much less than binning everything! I do cut off bits and throw strips into my strings containers.

Two and a half inch squares. Each of these piles are about two inches deep.

More tumblers.

Two inch squares.

Strips and strings.

Repro bucket.

Two and a half inch squares, 2 by 4 rectangles, two inch squares, one and a half inch squares, and squares for on point blocks.

I’m not sure what to do with my solid scraps.

And I have Quilt of Valor Scraps.

I’m not going to lie, this took a couple days. And I have more work to do (leftover binding strips anyone?). But it would have taken a good month without my Accuquilt die cutter. It is seriously one of the best quilting purchases I have ever made.

Accuquilt has been running some great sales this month. Click the link to check them out. These are affiliate links and I receive a small kickback when you click through and purchase. It helps defray the cost of the blog. It doesn’t cost you any more.

Have a great day!

Vintage Top and Blocks

When I was in Arizona, I found a FB Marketplace ad for a vintage quilt top and blocks. For $20, I snapped them up. Here are the blocks.

They range in size from 11 to 12 inches and few of them actually lay flat. But I love the fabrics and I think they will be a fun project. They were all handpieced. Many of the edge triangles appear to be a later vintage.

This is the top I got.

Bambi was helping me. It is also hand pieced. These will go into the someday pile for now. Have a great day!
