Progress!

I’m slowly making progress with my Churn Dash top. I’ve had help.

Good thing he’s cute.

I have the blocks together with sashing. It currently measures about 60 by 87 inches. I had planned to add borders. I’m starting to wish I had made more blocks. I could do that, but I don’t have anymore sashing fabric with me. This is the border fabric.

I haven’t cut it since I haven’t figured out how wide to make the borders.

I really want this top done. Ugh. What to do, what to do? I think I’ll work on something else a while.

Have a good day!

Sewing with Big L

My heart is full! Big L got to spend the night with us Friday night and Saturday we celebrated our daughter in love’s birthday here. These are the reasons I wanted to be here! Anyway, Big L and I worked on presents for the birthday girl Friday night.

He really enjoyed sewing! He picked out fabric from my strip bin and made this little bag.

You can see how proud he is! Then he decided he wanted to make a pillow for her.

He picked out the fabrics and sat on my lap to use the sewing machine. He wants to make a quilt for his aunt next! Here are the things he made.

ST is short for Stephanie. He put pretty rocks in the bag for her. I can’t wait until our next crafting session!

Also, thanks to everyone for the ID on my wire basket system. I’m excited to be able to find another that will match!

And I’m reading all the comments, but am ever so behind in responding. I hope to get back in the groove this week.

Have a great day!

Slow Stitching Sunday

I thought it would be good to have one more handwork project prepped for our long road trip. I found these leftovers from my Brinton Hall quilt. Turns out, I didn’t touch this on the trip.

I have a few pieces already basted.

And plenty more ready to baste.

To give you an idea of size, this little Tupperware container was meant to hold a sandwich. I may or may not work on this today. Time will tell. Have a great day!

Fabric Storage

I brought fabric here in plastic bins. It isn’t ideal for a working sewing room, but it works. However, during my daily perusal of marketplace ads, I found this for $10 and couldn’t pass it up.

I don’t know the brand, it isn’t like the Ikea ones I have at home. And I think it was put together wrong. All five baskets only fit when it is upside down. Probably fixable, but that’s a project for another day. I put the shirting pieces I brought in the bottom.

Backgrounds and neutrals next up.

Then used the top two got precuts.

The top of this unit is plastic. I am hoping I can find one more just like it. If anyone has an idea of what brand this is, I’d love to know!

Have a great day!

Finish It Up Friday ~ Dream Big

The title of this panel feels very appropriate for this piece. It will hang in my Arizona house. This house has been a big dream of mine for a very long time!

It was the last thing I quilted on Friday before leaving. Here is the backing.

I decided to finish this with a facing instead of a binding.

I ended up with the center of the flower not laying quite flat, but blocking seemed to help.

I love the texture!

Now to get this hung up! Have a great day!

My Ironing Table

I spent half of a day working on this and I’m still not happy with it. This is what I started with.

I ended up taking this apart. It had wrinkles inside.

Ugh. And this is why you can’t trust the accuracy of the lines on these.

I pulled out the draw string and sewed ties in.

I tied these under the table top.

Not pretty, but so far it’s okay. I’m hoping it will flatten out over time.

Have a good day!

Finally Sewing

It is so good to sew!

It’s amazing how much the rows shrink when they get sewn together.

I started getting excited seeing the rows together. And yes, I’m piecing this sideways.

I put up my cornerstones. Next, I will sew the sashing/cornerstone rows together.

Have a great day!

Sewing Room Progress

It’s looking better! I bought 5 small conferences tables on Facebook Marketplace and picked them up this morning. They are HEAVY!

Each one measures 30 by 60 inches. I put two in the center of the room for a cutting table. The other three are along the far wall.

I picked up this ironing pad years ago and I think I can make it work on one of tables.

BTW I’m so glad to hear that so many of you are happy with your Shark irons! Here are a couple other views of this room.

Maybe tomorrow I’ll have time to sew…maybe not. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Have a great day!

Design Wall Monday

The most exciting part of this DWM post, is that I do in fact HAVE a design wall!

This is the biggest one I’ve ever had. I’m really glad I had this project ready to go. I haven’t done any sewing yet, but as you can see, I’ve started laying this out.

I also bought an iron.

I know nothing about this iron. I needed one, it was on sale, and we had Kohl’s cash.

Thanks to everyone for for your suggestions for my warped quilt hanger! We read them all and I think we have the solution now. Hoping I can get it on the wall tomorrow. I will post a photo as soon as I can.

Have a great day!

Slow Stitching Sunday

I so hope for a little slow stitching today! I got a bit done on the drive out here, but not as much as I expected.

And this isn’t even complete.

I hope to finish that seam today. I also want to figure out what to do about this.

I bought this quilt hanger ages ago and never realized until now that it is warped. I can’t keep the ends of my quilt in no matter how hard I turn the knobs.

Ugh. Oh well. Not the end of the world, just another challenge along the way.

Have a great day!
