More Hand Dyed Pieces

I was looking for a backing fabric in my hand dyes. I didn’t find one, but I did come across a few other interesting pieces I had forgotten about.

Some of these would be fun just to free motion quilt. I’ll have to think about these.

Have a good one!

Another HST Project

I’ve been looking at HST ideas and ideas for solid fabric quilts. So I decided to combine the two. I’m using this die and my GO! Cutter.

Since these are the two colors for my HSTs, I’m layering them and pressing them so they are ready to sew after running through the die cutter.

And just like that, I have a pile done!

This should give you an idea of where I’m headed.

Have a great day!

Before and After

I always love a good before and after comparison! Mr. Wonderful has worked really hard at transforming our new back yard, from this:

To this:

Here are a few more comparison photos.

He did such a great job and we are really enjoying this! Have a great night!

Finish It Up ~ Amish Inspired Improv

I finished this little piece over the weekend.

I used the same thick button thread that I used on my Hexie project to quilt it with big stitches.

I almost used a red binding, but I didn’t want to take attention away from the center.

Thus fun piece made the perfect backing.

I have no idea what I’ll do with this, but I do love it. I want to make more of these small quilts to play with color.

Have a great day!

Slow Stitching Sunday

I finally got back to my hand quilt project.

I love using plain muslin on the back. The texture shows so well!

I’m so enjoying all these bits of vintage fabric.

I love stitching outside!

Have a great day!

This and That

I was digging through my hand dyed fabrics and found these bits that I made years ago.

I hand dyed the fabrics and then did a bleach discharge with a stencil I had made. I’m thinking about doing some hand stitching on these.

I listened to this book this week. I really like Charles Martin, but this wasn’t my favorite of his. It does give good insight into sex trafficking in our country.

Last Tuesday was Gotcha Day for Winslow! I can’t believe it’s been two years already.

I saw this on Instagram and you could insert Winslow’s picture here.

She’s a lovable goofball and her tail rarely stops wagging.

Have a great day!

Finish It Up Friday…. For Real!

I’m so excited to share, not just a top, but a real finish!

It was a challenge for me to quilt this, but I’m happy with how it ended up.

I used Kona snow for the background on the front and unbleached muslin on the back.

As a reminder, the following photo was my inspiration. It was a small quilt that sold on eBay some time ago.

Here’s mine.

I like mine just as well. Have a great day!

Where Were We?

I haven’t forgotten this. I’ve just been indecisive.

I finally decided that I like this orientation and I like the idea of adding lines through the middle.

I cut strips and put them on the wall and found that I liked the longer strips.

But they do need space on the top and bottom.

I freehand sliced each piece in two and inserted my strips. This can be a bit scary.

So this is where I’m at now. I have six pieces and I’m thinking I might need one more to make it an odd number of strips.

I haven’t sewn the strips together yet. It’s time to think some more.

Have a great day!

More Treasures!

I mentioned the sale I went to last weekend. Here are a couple other things I picked up. I’m not sure of the name of this lock, but I really love it. It doesn’t lay quite flat. I hope to hand quilt this.

It is machine pieced. The blocks are about 14 inches.

Isn’t this a beauty?

This one will need a bit of persuasion to get it to lie flat enough to quilt.

And it will need a number of replacement squares.

This one was all hand pieced.

I’m sure it will take me a while to track down appropriate scraps and repair this, but eventually, I would like to hand quilt this as well.

Have a great day!

A Little Amish Improv

This antique Amish quilt on Pinterest caught my eye recently. I’ve been wanting to work with solids lately and this seemed a good project to play with.

Except I decided not to measure anything.

I love the colors in the original, but mine is a wee bit brighter, since I’m using what I have on hand. That center piece is light blue. I’m not sure why it looks purple here.

Mine is much smaller than the original and I didn’t follow too closely.

I love how it seems to glow! Time to quilt! Have a great day!
