Design Wall Monday

Remember this little kit? Turns out it was the perfect thing to work on while waiting for someone to come pick up a piece of furniture I sold. Since there were an hour and a half late, I got the whole top done!

Now to decide on quilting. And I should probably kit up a few more of these little projects.

Have a great day!

July Wrap Up

It’s been a good quilting month. I finished the Jeep quilt just on time for E3’s birthday.

I quilted and bound this top for a friend of my mom’s.

Had to sneak in this mini!

My favor finish, Amelia Brown’s Rooster Medallion!

Shark Reunion!

And Triangles.

I also quilted 8 Quilts of Valor and worked in a few secret projects that I can’t share just yet.

Have a great day!

Finish It Up Friday ~ Triangles

My most recent leader/ender quilt is done!

I love the crosshatch on this.

I have had this backing fabric for years and this seemed the perfect quilt to use it.

You can see here how imperfect my grid is, but it doesn’t matter at all.

This was my inspiration. It was made by Gee’sBend quilter, Annie Bendolph.

Mine doesn’t have the same charm, but I’m still very happy with it. Here are a few photos after washing. I’m trying a new batting.

It doesn’t get quite as crinkly, but I love the weight of it. It is Pellon 80/20 and comes on a 120″ roll.

One last thing to share.

I would NOT have wanted to make this quilt without my Accuquilt dies and die cutter. So I wanted to share this deal with you. You can also get free shipping until August 2nd by clicking here.

Have a great day!

Scrappy Strips

Remember these scrappy strips? They were leftovers from this quilt .

This is one of the little projects I had kitted up. It as a quick and easy top to piece when I didn’t have much time.

The top was together before I knew it! of course, the work of piecing the strips was already done.

Time to quilt. Have a great day!

Kitting Up!

Over the weekend , I spent some time kitting up a few small quilts that I had on my bucket list. I get a lot of inspiration from vintage quilts on eBay. When I see something I might want to make, I take a screenshot and make a note on my iPad on what to cut. Like this:

I scribbled out a row and noted that I need 36 print diamonds and 24 solids. I may or may not keep the zig zag edge that full diamonds on the top and bottom would give me, but I can decide that later. I dug through my vintage scraps and used my Accuquilt 30 degree diamond die to cut my pieces. Here it is all ready to go.

These are Tupperware sandwich containers. I love them for small projects like this. Here is another note I made myself.

And here it is kitted up and ready to sew. I used my Accuquilt 2 inch square die and Accuquilt 2 inch strip die for these pieces.

This is my third little quilt. No note here, just an idea I had. I used my Accuquilt 2 1/2 inch strip die for this.

Hope this helps someone out. It sure helps me to actually get around to making those quilts on my bucket list!

Before I go, I have to let you in on a couple great deals. Accuquilt is offering 28% off all orders over $28! You need to use the code, SAVE28, at checkout. They also have 50% off the GO! Starter Set ! That deal is good until August 3rd. No code needed for that one.

Have a great day!

Crosshatch Quilting

I was having so much fun with my leader/ender project that it ended up being my main piecing project!

I loaded it up and decided to crosshatch quilt it. There are two ways of doing this on the long arm. One is to do all the horizontal lines first.

Then take the quilt off the frame, turn it 90 degrees and quilt all the lines in the other direction.

The other option is what I’m doing here. I started the same way. I did all horizontal lines as far as I could without advancing the quilt.

Then I did lines from the top to the bottom line I had quilted, traveled the width of my grid, and headed back up to the top.

You might be able to see where I traveled on the bottom line.

I use this little device to keep my horizontal lines straight.

It prevents the machine from rolling in that direction.

When I do the vertical lines, I just eyeball it. They are mostly straight. I’m not looking for perfection here.

As far as spacing goes, I set my machine for 12 stitches per inch. When I get to the end of a line, I count stitches as I move the machine. I’m shooting for my lines to be about 9 stitches apart. That’s 3/4 of an inch.

This isn’t fast quilting, but I love the effect, so it’s worth it.

Have a great day!

Slow Stitching Sunday

I finished one Pomegranate block and have started the second.

I played around a bit with this in a layout app.

This isn’t actually the first Pomegranate quilt I’ve made. I machine appliquéd this one a long time ago. Like maybe 20 years? I’d completely forgotten about it!

Have a great day!
