I’ve been hearing this song over and over in my head in recent weeks. This little piece feels a bit like a companion piece to Mourning Has Broken.
There is an Accuquilt downloadable embroidery file you can use to applique these skinny letters down, but I prefer fusing and then quilting tightly over top. Matchstick quilting can be very meditative, and it was certainly called for here.
I love text quilts, but making letters is a daunting task. Or it was, until I got an alphabet die. I used a solid white for the backing and facing.
This message was not to be constrained by a border or binding.
Yes, they seem to belong together, though one is very traditional and the other, very modern.

I love this little quilt it ended up at 28 by36 inches.
This backing fabric must be 30 years old, but it’s perfect.
I used the grid quilting to add texture, without another design element.
The snow seemed a fitting backdrop.

It is more perfect than they could have known. You see, I’ve been grieving a broken relationship for a while now. I’ve been praying about it for months. I’ve owned my part and apologized, but I’m still waiting for reconciliation and restoration. With this quilt, with this name, Mourning Has Broken, I feel new hope. I will move past mourning and into praising God for what will be. Even without visual evidence, I believe it’s a new day.

But the occasional early morning, when I have no place to go and coffee at hand, I can enjoy the view from my windows. There is also a certain quiet after the snow falls. It is a different sort of quiet, like the whole world is standing still, and holding it’s breath.
It is beautiful. God covers the world in white and reminds me that all things can be made clean and new.

Mr. Wonderful and I flew into Michigan early Thursday. Those red eye flights are rough! But after a quick nap, we enjoyed Thanksgiving dinner at Daughter #2’s house. Friday, we had a family day here. We sure missed our Michigan kids!
