Finish It Up Saturday ~ It Is Well

I’ve been hearing this song over and over in my head in recent weeks. This little piece feels a bit like a companion piece to Mourning Has Broken.

There is an Accuquilt downloadable embroidery file you can use to applique these skinny letters down, but I prefer fusing and then quilting tightly over top. Matchstick quilting can be very meditative, and it was certainly called for here.

I love text quilts, but making letters is a daunting task. Or it was, until I got an alphabet die. I used a solid white for the backing and facing.

This message was not to be constrained by a border or binding.

Yes, they seem to belong together, though one is very traditional and the other, very modern.

    Commenting again…my grandmother used to play this( by ear) on piano! This is comforting now as I am dealing with covid….rough night, but praise God, good this morning. No monoclonal antibodies available,,,on a waiting list. Y’all, please pray for me & hubby.

    You know how you just associate some songs with a person or event? We sang this song at my mother’s funeral so it forever connects me to my memory of her. Beautiful quilt in its simplicity. I can read some of the words in the text print background but am wondering what it is from. Is It a quote from a book?

    We are a very musical family, and this summer we visited my husband’s grandparents in their nursing home. My daughters played hymn duets for them on their violins. Papa couldn’t really speak much anymore, but he sang along when they played It is Well With My Soul. It was the last time my girls saw them before he passed away. And my girls played it again for his honor at the funeral. Such a beautiful tribute to a Christian life well-lived! I will love this song and it’s lyrics forever.

    There is a wonderful story to go with that hymn. I hope you have read it. It is encouraging that in spite of the heartache and pain that he, the writer, still believed in God’s hand in his life.

    The music to this is beautiful if you haven’t heard it before.
    I memorized this hymn years ago and sing it as I drift off to sleep! This is my favorite stanza.

    That Christ hath regarded my helpless estate,
