Finish It Up Thursday ~ Big Bang

Gotta love a quick finish! This definitely fit the bill.

Did you guess that I was doubling up on the quilting? In the next photo, you can see the difference.

Even though they are not evenly spaced, they give glorious texture!

And I love that I can use my design boards for quilting more than one design. The next photo shows the backing and a bit of the binding. I didn’t have enough of the orange left over, but a bit of yellow was just the ticket to complete it.

Being a chemistry nerd, I love these prints!

I loved making this! No pressure, no perfection. I’ll definitely make something similar again soon. BTW, the finished size is 41 by 54 inches.

Have a great day!

Something new? Or something old?

On one of Mr. Wonderful’s trips to China, he brought back Nankeen fabric for me. You can read about it here.

They are such special fabrics, that it is hard to cut into them. Each of the six pieces were about 15 by 45 inches. I cut one piece with medallions into three parts. I know I don’t want to cut these any smaller.

The other bits are folded. I started playing with them like this. I’m hoping I will come up with a simple design to show them off.

It’s going to take some looking to find the right sashing fabric. A bright white won’t do it, but something creamy won’t either.

Have a great weekend!

Big Bang Quilt Progress

Part of the reason I wanted to make a quick top, was so I could try out a quilting idea I had.

I’m using these pattern boards again, but only quilting half of the lines.

At the end? Not quite…..

This is only half of my experiment. Stay tuned.

Have a great day!

Charm Pack Baby Quilt

I was in the mood for a quick project and grabbed this charm pack from the stash.

I like bigger baby quilts. I also wanted a more interesting layout than just alternating solid squares.

In the next pic everything is in place. I share this only to show how much better it looks in the following photo where the top is finished.

Such a satisfying difference!

And it was fast! On to the quilting.

Have a great day!

My Redeemer Lives

“Redeemer”

Who taught the sun
Where to stand in the morning
And who told the ocean
You can only come this far
And who showed the moon
Where to hide till evening
Whose words alone can
Catch a falling star

Well I know my Redeemer lives
I know my Redeemer lives
All of creation testifies
This life within me cries
I know my Redeemer lives
Yeah

The very same God
That spins things in orbit
Runs to the weary
The worn and the weak
And the same gentle hands
That hold me when I’m broken
They conquer death to bring me victory

Now I know my Redeemer lives
I know my Redeemer lives
Let all creation testify
Let this life within me cry
I know my Redeemer

He lives to take away my shame
And He lives forever I’ll proclaim
That the payment for my sin
Was the precious life He gave
But now He’s alive and there’s an empty grave

And I know my Redeemer, He lives
I know my Redeemer lives
Let all creation testify
Let this life within me cry

I know my Redeemer
I know my Redeemer lives
I know my Redeemer lives
I know that, I know that, I know that, I know that, I know
I know my Redeemer lives
(Because He lives I can face tomorrow)
He lives, I know, I know, I know.
He lives
(I spoke with Him this morning.)

He lives.
(The tomb is empty)
He lives.
(I’ve got to tell everybody)

Arizona WIPs

It’s decision time. I have to figure out what projects go back to Michigan with me and what stays in Arizona. What this really means, is that I have a legitimate reason to procrastinate! 🤣

So, what is staying? Martha is staying.

The elephant is staying.

These are staying. They are fun to make and will be a great project to ease back into in the fall.

I’ve built up more of a stash here this winter, so I’m not taking so much fabric back and forth.

The harder decisions will be which dies to take or leave.

Have a great day!

Finish It Up Friday ~ QOV

My Quilt of Valor is all done except for the label. This really went together fast!

The blocks measure 18” and the whole thing is 72” square. I used my AccuQuilt 9” GO! Qube and the GO! 9” finished square to cut the pieces.

The quilting design kind of gets lost, but it’s loose enough to make this a really cozy quilt.

Here is the backing. It was nice that I had everything on hand to make this.

I would definitely make this pattern again.

Have a great day!

Something New

I saved a couple Heather Bailey layer cakes for ages, with a plan to make a quilt using the Quick Curve Ruler. You can read about that debacle here. I finally had an idea to show off these lovely fabrics.

These are 12 inch blocks and these are the AccuQuilt dies I used. They are all from the 8” Qube.

This will be a slow here and there project. I am enjoying choosing the fabrics for the blocks one at a time. This is a bit unusual for me. This has no deadline and the sewing is easy.

Have a great day!

Leader/Ender Again

First of all, thank you all for your comments and suggestions regarding my ugly cushions! Eventually, they will get redone with the correct foam. Mr. Wonderful is in town so I’m very behind in responding to comments, but I am reading them all! Onto today’s post.

My blocks are all put together. I debated adding a border, but decided not to.

I want to use the same binding fabric I used on my Wheels quilt. I thought any border would conflict.

Finally loaded!

I started out just doing continuous curves for the quilting, but I got bored and started playing around.

After while, I decided it looked terrible, but I’d gone this far, might as well just keep playing.

Time to bind!

Have a great day!

Lumps and Bumps

Sigh…. This is another tale of woe….

There is a window seat in one of our bedrooms. I love it! I knew as soon as I saw it that I wanted to make cushions for it.

It is 104” wide, so I decided to make two cushions.

I got this fantastic felted wool yardage at the Herman Miller outlet in Zeeland, Michigan when I visited Daughter #3.

I had picked up this mattress topper for a song, thinking I could use it in my cushions.

Waaa….waaaa…..waaaa…..

This is ten of ten, NOT recommended. My cushions are lumpy and bumpy. They look awful. Excuse the messy photo, Daughter #2 is still waiting to close on her new house.

On the plus side, I can reuse the covers I made when I find the right foam for the job. I left the seams in the back open. At least the dogs don’t care.

I played around with some of the scraps and my circle dies to make leaves. Yes, there are dies for leaves, but this gives me variety in size and shape.

I think there is some potential here. At least they look better than my cushions.

Have a great day!
