Lumps and Bumps

Sigh…. This is another tale of woe….

There is a window seat in one of our bedrooms. I love it! I knew as soon as I saw it that I wanted to make cushions for it.

It is 104” wide, so I decided to make two cushions.

I got this fantastic felted wool yardage at the Herman Miller outlet in Zeeland, Michigan when I visited Daughter #3.

I had picked up this mattress topper for a song, thinking I could use it in my cushions.

Waaa….waaaa…..waaaa…..

This is ten of ten, NOT recommended. My cushions are lumpy and bumpy. They look awful. Excuse the messy photo, Daughter #2 is still waiting to close on her new house.

On the plus side, I can reuse the covers I made when I find the right foam for the job. I left the seams in the back open. At least the dogs don’t care.

I played around with some of the scraps and my circle dies to make leaves. Yes, there are dies for leaves, but this gives me variety in size and shape.

I think there is some potential here. At least they look better than my cushions.

Have a great day!

Love that window seat!! A few years ago I replaced all the cushions in our deer camp cabin furniture. I bought them from BUY FOAM, they were perfectly cut to my measurements and very affordable.

  2. Well, I would love to say it looks fine, but I would remake them myself, so I’d better not. lol I guess you could just throw a pretty quilt over it along with a nice pile of books. 🙂

Oh no! But at least it should be an easy fix once you find the foam cushion inserts the size you need. We’ve all been there, with projects that don’t go quite as we planned! Your idea to do the cushions is a great one….it’ll just take a little longer to get to the finish line!!

I’d wager your lumpy bumpy cushions are super duper comfortable! I personally like them just the way they are! =)

I was thinking too that if you put batting between foam and fabric, you might get a smoother look.

B.Turner has the solution. Maybe a layer of cotton and then polyester wrap. Watch a cushion upholstery video. I would even smooth things out with a wool layer somewhere. Not a complete “wrap”. Just a layer to smooth things out.

  7. Becky Turner says:

So can you try wrapping them with batting?

  8. This is how we learn, and the fabric is lovely. It will all work out.

  9. Well, boo. They don’t look that bad to me, but I know how it feels when it’s just not right. I hope you find foam soon! Those leaves are so cute!
