Temecula Kit

I recently received this in the mail from a quilty friend.

It included all the fabric needed. Within 30 minutes of getting the mail, I had my block pieces cut! I was so excited!

And not long later, the first two blocks were done.

Before dinner, they were all done!

This is how I pressed these small blocks.

More to come! Have a great day!

Jack

One of E3’s favorite things in AZ, was our cactus, Jack. We said hello and goodbye each time we left the house or came home.

He told Daughter #1 that he wanted cactus pajamas. So what does a nana do? She buys green sweats.

Marks a bazillion dots.

And starts stitching “pokeys.”

He was quite pleased with himself!

Definitely the cutest cactus I’ve ever seen. He ended up using this as his costume for Halloween.

Have a great day ! 🌵

Pin Drop HSTs

Remember these?

I didn’t forget them. I was just waiting on inspiration.

And I thought I found it. But this sat on the wall for quite a while and went no further.

Then I saw some artwork by Anni Albers. Incredible! So that led to this.

If I can stop looking at her work online, I might make some progress on this.

Have a great day!

October Wrap-Up

I had a surprising number of finishes, given that I was out of town part of the month. Of course, I have an out of town sewing room. 😊

This little one is my clear favorite.

I should call this one Lemonade, since it came from the lemons of a cutting mistake.

Loved making this table topper and now I have another idea for using the Hunter’s Star die.

Dancing Dogs was quick and fun!

I’m glad I remembered to finish this while it was still fall.

And lastly, Kansas Dugout.

I guess I should start thinking about Christmas now!

Have a great day!

Slow Stitching Sunday

I’m hand sewing binding today. That means another finish is on the horizon.

I had fun with the quilting on this one!

This graffiti type of quilting takes me a long time. Mostly it is because I have to stop and think about what to do next.

None of the individual parts are all that great, but together it usually works out well.

Have a great day!

This and That

I recently read this book and really enjoyed it.

Can you relate?

Sweet Winslow.

E3 had his turn spending the night last week. We visited the pumpkin place and they had chickens.

Daughter #1 recently posted this memory. It still makes me laugh!

Have a great day!

Finish It Up Friday ~ Kansas Dugout

My this was a fun little bit! It seems that I like simple things best. And this was about as simple as it gets.

I used a variegated thread for the quilting.

This is the pantograph I used.

I went with a simple machine sewn, black binding.

This light green backing fabric has been in the stash for ages. It feels good to use things up!

Ta daaa! This quilt finished at 40 inches square.

Now to find a home for it.

Have a great day!

Welcome QAL

I’ve been working here and there and actually finished my blocks for this quilt along, hosted by Lori at Humble Quilts.

This is Lori’s quilt.

And here are my blocks.

I used the AccuQuilt GO! Spool die instead of letter blocks.

I’m now trying to decide if I want to continue with the border as shown in the pattern, or change that up too. it might need to live on the design wall for a while so I can think about it.

Have a great day!

Follow Up on the Mystery Quilt!

My friend, Donna, shared a photo of my quilt with AQS Appraiser, Cheri Pickett, who was visiting a guild meeting.

She brought this similar quilt for her program.

Donna wrote:

AQS Quilt appraiser, Cheri Pickett spoke at Guild last night, she had this 4 block quilt with the same pattern as yours, and she called it love apple. Said the pattern was 1840-1850, but her quilt was about 1950s based on the fabric.

Here is the best block of her 4 block quilt. She did say that the yellow was faded from a green and that the pattern was typically found in the south east. She said the 4 block quilts are very hard to find in the wild. I showed her your blog post and she was impressed.

Wendy commented to let me know about this post from Barbara Blackman. In her Encyclopedia of Appliqué, she calls it Southern Pineapple. Definitely click the link to see the photos.

So, definitely NOT a Chinese knock off! It was clearly finished at a later date and well done, though minimally quilted with poly batting.

I will definitely take this apart, remove the newer borders, and hand quilt it with cotton batting. Sounds like a good winter project.

A huge thanks to Donna and Wendy for helping me out on this!

Have a great day!

Pindrop

These are leftovers hanging around from this quilt . I kept them together for “someday”.

Well, someday arrived. I grabbed this AccuQuilt die and cut a bunch of 3” triangles.

I cut an equal number of white triangles.

The rest of my pieces were too small, so I cut 2 1/2” by 4 1/2” rectangles, using Shape 8 from the AccuQuilt 8” Qube. Again, I cut an equal number of white rectangles.

These seemed more interesting to me, so I started playing.

Not bad, but kind of small.

I could make another block, but it isn’t much bigger.

Long and skinny is what I ended up with. But it isn’t done yet. You’ll have to check back.

Have a great day!
