My New Doll Bed

Last week, my dear neighbor texted me to let me know that a garage sale on our street had a doll bed for sale. So I trotted down to check it out. I was NOT expecting this Victorian beauty!

I removed the foam and replaced it with a thinner scrap I had here. Then I made a cover for that. Of course, it needed a small pillow.

After I added a pillowcase, it was complete!

I’m positively smitten with this! It’s living in one of the guest rooms for now. I like peeking in there and seeing it.

Thanks, Kelly, for the tip!

Have a great day!

New Leader/Ender Project

I’ve been thinking for a while about my next leader/ender project. This bin of 2 1/2” squares is overflowing so I knew I wanted to use these.

I cut some plain squares to go with.

This is the die I used from my AccuQuilt 8” Qube.

This is my idea. I’m not sure my plain squares are bold enough to stand out.

I have the next block ready to stitch. I might have to make a few and then decide if I like it or not.

Have a great day!

Granny Squares

A granny square quilt has been on my short list for a while. When I came across a pile of Ruby Star scraps ( I don’t remember buying these 🤦🏻‍♀️), I decided it was time. My sizes were dependent on the size of my pieces.

I could get the most pieces with the least waste from this AccuQuilt die, so that is where I started. This is from the 12” Qube. BTW, they have some great Clearance and Overstock deals at the moment. Click here to check them out.

Oh, yes! I think this could be fun!

Have a great day!

Morning Star

I picked up this AccuQuilt die a while back and finally took the time to try it out.

I used red, white, and blue scraps from the bin.

There is so much potential with this die. While my sample is simple and scrappy, you can make some really dramatic quilts just with color placement.

This block would make a great center for a medallion quilt. Hmmmm….I need to think about that…..

Before I go, AccuQuilt is running some great deals right now. 40% off Overstock items, 50% off Clearance, 15% off embroidery downloads and more!

Have a great day!

Slow Stitching Sunday

I enjoyed making the little Valentine quilt so much, I decided to make a few more! So today, I’m hand sewing tiny bindings.

I cut my strips for these at 1 1/4”.

So much quicker than a big quilt!

You can see that I kept the quilting very simple.

Ta daaa!

I have a couple more to hand stitch later today.

Have a great day!

This and That

A dear friend gave me fresh picked oranges from her tree. Wow! What a treat!

Another puzzle finish. This was called 90s Icons. It was a fun blast from the past!

It’s been a bit chilly here at night so Winslow was rocking her unicorn hoodie.

A blank wall….. I want to create a bulletin board of sorts here. Something that I can pin finished quilts to, but won’t look bad left empty. I also don’t want anything that will ruin the wall when removed, but can handle the weight of quilts. I can’t get a full or even a half sheet of foam insulation into my Mini Cooper, so there is that. I’ve seen felt, pinnable squares, but the hanging part eludes me.

Lastly, look at this lovely lady! She turned 91 last weekend. She has been so much more to me than just my MIL. She has been a mentor, teacher, sounding board, prayer warrior, and the dearest of friends. It was so good to see her. Love you, Mama Mim!

Have a great day!

Finish It Up Friday ~ A Tiny Valentine

There is a free pattern on the Temecula Quilt Journal for a tiny Valentine quilt.

Of course, I had to try it!

The heart blocks finish at one inch!

It didn’t take long and it was ready for a bit of hand quilting.

I bound it by bringing the backing around to the front.

The finished size is 4 1/4” by 5 1/4 “.

What a fun little finish! I might just make another.

Before I go, AccuQuilt has all Studio dies on sale right now at 55% off!

Leader/Ender Update

After a whirlwind trip to Missouri, I’m back in Arizona. Yesterday, was a nap with dogs/reading/rest day. I hope to get caught up on comments soon.

Adding triangles to these as a leader/ender project worked out very well. That was rather boring sewing, but it is now nearly done. So it’s time to think again about the layout.

This was my original plan.

But I also like this.

Perhaps turned this way.

I’ve got samples of both ideas up on the design wall so I can ponder it. Pondering is a very important part of quilting for me.

Have a great day!

A Diversion

I was supposed to be working on something else…but this AccuQuilt die caught my eye in the sewing room and the rest is history.

It didn’t take long to cut my pieces out.

They have these little notches built in.

I tried piecing this with pins and without. I had the best success without. Start like this and take a few stitches.

Then line up the notches and ease the edges together in between.

Once you get past the notches, line up to the end.

I pressed toward the black on all blocks.

This made all my seams nest nicely.

This finished block is 14 inches. So fun!

Have a great day !

January Wrap-up

I managed a bit more than one finish per week this month. One finish is secret sewing and will be revealed in March.

So the final tally is two baby quilts, one wall quilt, and one throw quilt. Not my most productive month, but not bad.

Have a great day!
