Finish It Up Friday ~ 25 Patch

I love this one! A friend gave me these blocks last fall. Can you believe it? So much work! The small squares finish at one inch!

She also sent along the cheddar squares. I took these out and put them away countless times trying to figure out how best to show them off.

In the end, simple was best. I had this lovely old green print in my stash and it became the perfect faux border. The binding fabric surprised me a bit. You just never know what will work until you audition things.

The backing is an older Nancy Gere print.

I’m quite smitten!

Have a great day!

Farmer’s Wife

Remember these that my dear neighbor gave me?

I think I’ve figured out how to set the blocks using this fabric.

And this die.

Hour glass blocks can add so much to a quilt!

Oh, yes, I think I like where this is going! Right now, I am making the hour glass blocks as leader/enders, so it will take a little while.

One last thing, if anyone has followed along with the jelly roll sew along, could you send me pictures of your finished top/quilt? I’d love to share these when I share my finish. Thanks!

Have a great day!

Vintage Inspiration

I found this adorable vintage quilt online and thought it would be fun to reproduce. This is a crib quilt, but I planned to make a doll sized quilt.

I cut my squares 2”, so my four patches finish at 3”.

I cut creamy squares for in between.

I’m feeling a bit underwhelmed at this point. Maybe I’d like it better if I use a shirting print for alternate blocks. or maybe I should forge ahead and add interest with hand quilting.

Hmmmm….

Have a great day!

Aunt Martha…again!

I have eight diamonds completed! My technique has improved.

The original pattern calls for a total of 32 diamonds like this.

I’m fascinated with how different the Star looks depending on which color goes in the middle.

I kind of like this layout also.

Then I thought about making smaller stars to surround the bigger one.

I’m going to have to think about this for a bit.

Have a great day!

25 Patch

I’ve been very indecisive about these blocks.

I finally decided I was really overthinking this and that simple was best.

Quilting has finally begun.

This is the pantograph I’m using.

So far, so good!

Before I go, I had to share this AccuQuilt deal with you!

They also have half off on AccuQuilt Studio Dies!

Don’t forget to use the code. 😊

Have a great day!

Design Wall Update

My design wall has gone from this:

To this:

The above two photos were taken minutes apart and have had no filters or editing. Can you believe the difference?

I had a little chat with Daughter #3 recently about the best background for photographing quilts to get accurate color. Being a photographer, she’d suggested gray.

I started looking at Goodwill for something gray to try out and found this.

A week later, I found another one just like it! I really need one more, and I can buy one on Amazon. But I’ll stalk the Goodwill stores nearby first.

I can’t believe how much better my photos are turning out with this change in background. Who knew? Apparently, my daughter did. Smarty pants.

Have a great day!

This and That

I sewed all the triangles I had made together and ended up with this. I think it needs a few more rows. I also need to figure out how to keep this from getting skewed.

I found this cute little planter at Goodwill and turned him into a pin cushion.

Mr. Wonderful sent me this! He will be back very soon!

Poor Willy had to go to the vet this week. Turns out he had a bad UTI. Getting him to take his meds has been a chore. He seems to be feeling better though.

And in case you aren’t on Instagram, here are the photos I took for the prompt, Quilts in the Wild.

Have a great day!

Finish It Up Friday

My Circles quilt is done. And I found a cool bridge to use for photos!

Gotta love that rust!

As a reminder, this thrift shop piece was my inspiration.

Here is the back. I decided to finish with a facing instead of a binding.

I fused the circles down and then quilted it to death.

As you can see below, my circles are not perfectly placed. I should have taken more time on that.

This idea has so much design potential! I’m sure I’ll play with this more down the road.

Have a great day!

Aunt Martha Progress

I’m plodding along with this. The fourth diamond is done.

I’m open to a different layout than intended by the kit. It’s kinda fun to play with these bits.

Have a great day!

Aunt Martha

I’ve been avoiding this UFO. I decided to pull it out and make just one more star point.

Done! And I even fixed the previous one that came out too small.

I have the fourth one ready and waiting.

I’m afraid I’ll work forever to get these done and they won’t fit together. I guess I’ll just have to make it work somehow.

Have a great day!
