This and That

I decided to trim on of my little bits down and add it to a notecard to send yo a friend.

My pattern writing “helper.”

I love it when my boys come over after school! They discovered they are now big enough to climb trees in my backyard.

Silly Willy.

Our apple trees are in full bloom!

Lastly, I think this is considered a kids book, but I enjoyed it.

Finish It Up Friday ~ Twofer

I finished up both of these art quilts this week. It has been so much fun getting back into improv.

Daughter #3 suggested adding some embroidery to this. I had already been thinking of adding some hand quilting, so this is what I ended up with.

I love how the directional weave of the fabrics adds interest l

Loving that texture.

And here is the second piece. I think this is my favorite of the two.

This photo really shows the texture of the quilting.

I need names, so if you have any great ideas, let me know in the comments!

Have a great day!

Finish It Up Thursday ~ Streams of Consciousness

I finished this little quilt using bias tape.

I figured out how to stitch these down by machine on top of the already quilted background.

Here is the back. I like to face most art quilts. I still need to add a hanging sleeve and rod.

Have a great day!

Playing Around

I mentioned quilting a background piece for an idea I had. Today I’ll explain more.

I have some of this old single fold bias tape to play with.

I started with my preqilted piece and placed strips of the bias tape on top. Using my iron with steam, I found I could create smooth curves.

This s great fun!

I have more ideas than time!

Looks like I need to quilt some more background.

Have a great day!

Sketching on Fabric

I have an idea I want to try. It involves appliqué on a prequilted background.

I had more fabric than batting at the end of my piece, so I added some scrap batting and kept quilting.

Then I applied fusible to the back of some scraps and cut out small circles.

I used this die.

I placed the circles on the quilted background and fused them down while the piece was still on the long arm frame. I changed to black thread and did some sketching by machine to create little flowers.

Then I cut them apart. I think they are rather cute. I definitely want to play with this idea some more.

I don’t know yet what I will do with these. I could attach them to the front of blank cards.

It was a very fun little diversion, that’s for sure.

Have a great day!

Leader/Ender Project

Remember these?

They are 6” blocks and I started them before leaving for Arizona last fall. I’ve been using them as a leader/ender project.

I need to be thinking about another one as these blocks will be finished soon. I currently have 100 blocks done.

Have a great day!

Finish It Up Sunday ~ Swap Quilt

My little quilt has been received, so I can finally share it with you!

I enjoyed hand quilting this and I think the red thread was a good choice. Just look at the texture!

I made the border up using a machine quilting template, designed for quilting scallops.

I’m glad I used a solid cream on the back.

Have a great day!

This and That

Check out this beauty made by reader, Terry B! She used 5” squares to make her version. I love it!

I’ve only done one puzzle since returning to Michigan.

Here is a handy DIY earthquake detector. 🤣

My sweet neighbor has sent some lovely photos of our blooming plants in AZ!

Mr. Wonderful and I have only been out riding once since we returned. It was great fun! But mostly, it has been too cold and rainy to ride.

Have a great day!

Finish It Up Friday ~ Farmer’s Wife

It’s done and I love it! If you recall, my friend, Kelly, gave me most of these blocks as well as additional fabric and the book. I so enjoyed making some more blocks and finishing this up.

I quilted it with the traditional Baptist Fan.

And I had a perfect backing in my stash.

My pictures aren’t the best. We’ve had lots of cold, rainy days here. So when the sun came out, I ran out to take photos. Then it was too bright. Ugh.

This is perfect for my family room here in Michigan. Thanks again, Kelly!

Have a great day!

My Swap Quilt!

I took part in the little quilt swap hosted by Lori again this year. My sweet little quilt arrived yesterday and I couldn’t be more thrilled!

JoAnne made this wonderful little piece for me. You all know I love all things patriotic and she hit the nail on the head! Look at her beautiful hand appliqué and quilting!

A huge thanks to Lori for hosts this again and to JoAnne for her generosity.

Have a great day!
