This and That Tuesday

I had the day off yesterday and hubby is out of town. Usually, that is the perfect chance to get a lot done. It didn’t quite work out that way though. I started the day clearing the driveway since we’ve been dealing with this.

There’s a pretty thick layer of ice under that. The garage door was frozen shut, but I managed to get it loose. Of course then the snow blower didn’t want to cooperate so I ended up doing it the old fashioned way. After that, I visited these little sweeties.

I stopped at an antique shop on the way home and found this lovely quilt.

There was only room to lay out a quarter of it. The hand work was magnificent! All the appliqué work was stuffed. It had this piece with it.

It was about 24 inches from top to bottom and the same width as the quilt. Perhaps it was meant to cover pillows? It wasn’t nearly as worn as the quilt. I didn’t bring it home, but I would have liked to!

Last night, I finally recovered my ironing table. Here are the before and after photos.

Quite an improvement, no? I used a Teflon coated fabric I bought at JoAnn’s  and two layers of batting. The first cover lasted nearly 10 years. Not sure why I waited that long since it looks so much better now.

Here’s hoping that I get a big of quilting in today before work! Have a good one.

About katyquilts

I am a wife, mom of four amazing kids, and a librarian. I have been making traditional quilts for ages but have ventured into art qulting in the last several years. I also love to knit socks and mittens and dye my own fabric. I am thankful to God my Father and Creator for the gift of creativity!

Glad you got such lovely hugs. It is weird how we don’t get round to renewing things like your ironing boardcover, or my rotary cutter blade!

  2. The snow/ice is coming our way tonight. Not looking forward to the morning. Brought work home so I can work from home if it’s too bad. Looks like you had a great visit. Is your ironing board a table?

Your ironing table ‘before’ pictures looks like mine – I’ll have to grab some of that teflon fabric and recover it too. What a beautiful antique quilt – don’t you wish we could buy everything we want? LOL Glad you got some snuggles!
