First the good news, I finished piecing the top for the king size batik behemoth. Yay! I washed the backing and loaded it on the frame…..bad news time…..it shrunk so much it it now too narrow for the top!
Uggggggg!!!!
If I remove the narrow border from one side, it will JUST fit. This can go across the top of the quilt. Or I can buy a bigger backing, but it has to be one piece because she wants to use the back for a top for a change of pace. Also, any idea how hard it is to find a purple back that is more than 108″ wide? And how pricy? I have a headache today and can’t think too much about this now. However, that leaves me with a big purple cloud hanging over my head, a weighty one.
Now for the amazing news! My son sent us a package and said we couldn’t open it until we skyped with him and his lovely wife. This is what was inside:
How amazing is that? I am still in shock! This will be our first grandchild and frankly, I think I am much too young …..how did my son get to be old enough to be a dad himself? So my hubby and I have been saying that “grandma and grandpa” sound old…and we don’t want to be confused with the other grandparents so we need to figure out what this beautiful child will call us. What do your grandchildren call you?
Here is the lovely couple:
Aren’t they adorable?
And here is my first gratuitous grandbaby picture:
You can see already that this child is beautiful, smart, incredible!
Psalm 139:13-16
New International Version (NIV)
13 For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. 14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. 15 My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. 16 Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.
ETA: Did you know that today is the Feast of St Anne, the patron saint of seamstresses? Pretty cool! In honor of that, Angie at Quilting on the Crescent is having a Celebrate Sewing Linky party. You can find other links here.
Thanks, Sandi!
Haha! That is exactly what I thought! Yay! And wait, what? All at once!
Thanks, Jeanne!
Thanks! And yes, it is. I don’t like using names, even adding them to Grandma and Grandpa because is seems so formal.
Haha! I used the scraps in another quilt while waiting for the backing for this one to arrive!
Thanks, Angie!
Congratulations – it’s always wonderful to read good news!
Good news, yeah – nice finish!! Bad news – uhoh – where are the scraps? Add a strip how ever wide and long you need to the back – and you have a beautifully pieced front and back. Off set the intersection and you’re good to go. And there’s Holy Smokes!! What an awesome way to tell you, congrats to you and you’re growing family 🙂
Oh!!! Congratulations to you!!!
Congrats, Katy. I’m very partial to Grammy and Grampy. I’m not sure if it is younger sounding, or not, but it seems less formal, somehow.
That’s terrirfic, Katy! Congratulations to the future parents and grandparents!
Wonderful, wonderful! You have awesome days in front of you! I became a grandma at 42 and had the same feelings that you do: awe and wow I’m not that old! My grandchildren call me Nonnie. I let my hubby pick his own; he is called Bear! When my first was a baby, people mistook me for his mom!
Congratulations on becoming grandparents!
