Quilt of Valor Progress

I decided to skip the panel for this quilt and got right to cutting and sewing.

I still have to sew the rows together. It will be 64 inches square before borders.

I think I have just enough of this flag print.

Have a great day!

Something New!

My dear SIL asked if I would make a Quilt of Valor for a friend of his. That was an easy yes!

I pulled out this panel from Northcott. It’s been around a while. I love it, but I often find panels difficult to use.

I have these fabrics from the same line.

I could skip the panel and make something like this. I made this quilt to honor the years my brother served in the US Coastguard.

Hmmmm….

Have a great day!

Heard Museum ~ Indian Boarding Schools

There is a special exhibit area at the museum regarding Indian Boarding Schools.

These tiny handcuffs are impossibly small. They brought me to tears.

I cannot imagine the pain of small children being forcibly removed from their families.

This was an interesting quilt included in the display.

There is much to learn here. It is a part of our history worth delving into.

One of my sons in law is Native American. I love him dearly! One of my favorite things about him, is that I can ask him anything and he is never offended, no matter how dumb or insensitive my questions may seem. I think he knows my heart is to learn. He also has an uncanny ability to look at all sides of an issue and give honest assessments. He seeks to understand.

We had a great discussion about this topic. His grandparents attended a school like this. Amazingly, they found the good in it. Because of the school, they came to know Jesus. It was also an opportunity for the intermingling of diverse tribes. Groups that had previously considered one another as enemies became friends as they learned how much they had in common.

Some of the quotes in the exhibit echoed this sentiment. They also gave credit to the schools for learning trades and understanding how to navigate in this new world they found themselves in.

Does this excuse the horror? Definitely not. Removing children from their parents is fundamentally wrong. Further, the system was the perfect setup for abuse.

Sadly, the stealing of children is not a thing of the past. It happens everywhere. It happens today. To learn more, you can read about the A21 Campaign by clicking here. You can also learn more about child trafficking and the border crisis here.

Traveling 2

This is Jazzy. Isn’t she adorable? She traveled with the mister’s sister and BIL when we went to Texas.

This was the view from our campsite.

This little shop is out in the middle of nowhere where. It was created as an art piece to contrast luxury fashion with the starkness of the desert.

This was a pizza place we saw. sadly, it wasn’t open when we stopped by.

After we left Texas, we headed up to Carlsbad in New Mexico. We pull Oscar behind Dora, the RV, so we have a vehicle to explore in.

The Caverms did not disappoint! Wow!

From there, we headed to Tombstone.

It is a very dog friendly town. Willy and Winslow gave it two paws up!

They even enjoyed a stage coach ride with us.

Sadly, the Harley dealer wasn’t open. 😕

It was a wonderful trip, even though I didn’t take a single stitch.

Have a great day!

DP Again!

Thanks for all your help! I think the version I’ve decided on, is lower contrast with all the light pieces removed. I may have to dig into the stash to cut more pieces.

While piecing more DP blocks, I also sewed more fence rail blocks.

Two very different projects keeps things interesting!

Have a great day!

Drunkards Path Again

I decided I needed to play with my blocks a bit to determine exactly what I didn’t like.

The first grouping uses high contrast in the circles and dark to medium on the edges.

This group is lower contrast as I removed all the lights.

Lights around the outside.

All lights in the middle.

Which would you choose?

Have a great day!
