Broken….

Daughter #3 is a Communications/Fine Arts(Photography) major. She is currently taking a spring semester class. She and I went out early this morning to take a few pics for her class. The town I live in is not what it once was. It makes me sad to see the deterioration of the city. Amazingly, there is still beauty to be found there. Here are a few pics I took with my phone, a couple have Instagram filters added.

Clearly, I was quite taken with the shattered glass. So was dear daughter.  It reminded me of the following picture that was originally shared on FaceBook by my church.

I believe this can happen in MY town.

Public Service Announcement

I got up early to get this QOV quilted before work.

Here is my PSA: don’t wear pajama pants that are too long while quilting a pantograph barefoot. You may trip while doing the panto side shuffle and things can get ugly….in a hurry. Bad words could be said, stitches may need to be ripped….

In the end, it got done. Hope to bind it before work tomorrow.
Until next time…

Monday’s Progress

Well, I had a successful shopping trip to find batiks for my dear MIL’s quilt.

The colors are not totally accurate but it gives you an idea. I washed and pressed it all too.

I also got the Take Five top together.

Tonight after dinner, I got the backing pieced and got it loaded on the frame. I had a nice catchup with a friend I hadn’t seen in a long time and my laundry done as well. All in all, not a bad day!
Until next time…

Design Wall Monday

I got 30 of these blocks put together over the weekend for another QOV.

Once again, these are Take Five blocks that I cut with my studio cutter.
I will be making another Take Five quilt soon out of batiks for my dear MIL. She wants a king size! Remember when I said never again? LOL! Before I can get started, I have to actually buy fabric. My batik stash is pretty much nonexistent. So number one job for today is fabric shopping. Tough, I know…
I am also thinking how I might put these QOV swap blocks together. Still in the thinking stage.
I am linking up with Judy at Patchwork Times for Design Wall Monday.
Until next time…

Working on QOVs

I finally got the borders added to this QOV and hope to quilt it this week. This will go to Gulf War vet who served in the Marines.
I also started piecing more Take Five blocks for another QOV. This will go to a home for homeless vets in the fall. The center is near Detroit and we will need 150 quilts to present to all the vets there to thank them for their service.
Now off to work!

One small block…

That is all I finished sewing today. The Small Quilt Talk Yahoo group is going to do a signature block swap in the fall. This is the 6″ block we will exchange. I made one tonight just to try it out.

I also put the two side borders onto current QOV. I would have added the top and bottom borders but realized I cut them too short. Bummer! Maybe I will find some energy to sew tomorrow after work.

He’s home!

My wonderful hubby is back home! I got nearly everything on my to do list checked off as well. Sadly, my quilting goals were not met. Not even close. Anyway, just to show you how well my hubby knows and loves me, I will show you the textile treats he brought home for me!
I am not sure what this first item is called, he bought it at am art fair in China. It is made from many, many tiny bits of folded fabrics and comes with a hanging loop.

I love this and have to figure out how it is made. The layers of fabric give it a pretty good weight. Oddly, the points are meticulous and the center….is not. Would you do anything about that? Or leave it as is? Would be easy enough to appliqué a new circle over top. It measures 17″ across.
Anyway, the next item is a lovely silk on silk hand embroidered panel. I love the people dying with indigo!

To give you an idea of how fine this is, the embroidery is only 4 1/2″ square!

The best thing he brought home was himself. I am thankful to God for giving him to me. Ecclesiastes 4:9 says, “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor.” And here is a picture of our greatest life work, our masterpieces:

Doll Bed

So remember the other day when I showed you my little doll bed from Ikea?

20130617-075911.jpg

And I tried to sand and stain it?

20130618-085143.jpg

Finally ended up spray painting it with something I found in the garage. Then I distressed it slightly with sand paper. Finally, I like it!

My little prim doll from my swap partner, Judith in Wales, found a cozy home here on my ugly triangles quilt. Isn’t she adorable? This little quilt was the result of a challenge on the Small Quilt Talk Yahoo Group.

The pillow is made from vintage fabrics, a different one on each side, just because.  This was a lot of learning experience for such a tiny little bed! I do love it in my new guest room.
