More Quilts of Valor!

I finished quilting a couple more tops from our Stitching Sisters QOV group. I quilted this one, by Val, with a new panto called Petal Flambe, from Urban Elementz.

I used Glide thread in Light Tan.

This next one was made by Terri. I love the fabrics in this one! That eagle border is amazing. I should have taken a close up of that. I used a panto called Elongated Meander from Digi-Tech on this one.

I have the next one on the frame and started. I hope to have it done to share with you all on Friday.

This and That Tuesday

Yesterday was a productive day. I got my laundry done, made some phone calls, and finished unpacking. But you are not here to hear about my chores. I finished the QOV that I had in the frame and got the next one loaded.

Isn’t it beautiful? This is another top made by Val of the Stitching Sisters QOV group.

I also got the next clue for the Mystery Quilts 4 Military done.

And I  got the next round of my Gwennie Inspired Medallion QAL finished.  I can’t show that until the next linkup which will be next week, but here is a peek.

So if you haven’t done so, get that log cabin round done, because I want to see your progress!

Have a great day!

DWMonday

After a long weekend with extended family, we are home. I am mostly unpacked and laundry is half done. It is time to look at my sewing goals for the week. First, I want to get caught up on the Mystery  Quilts 4 Military. Here are my blocks so far.

Then I need to do the next round for my Gwenny Inspired Medallion for the quilt along.

I have a Quilt of Valor on the frame and three more to get quilted.

I have other things I want to work on, but these three are my top priorities for the week.

Have a great day!

Slow Stitching

We are headed home this morning after enjoying a weekend with extended family. I’m glad to have my English Paper Piecing project to work on in the car on this rainy morning! I have made 25 of these “blocks.”

And have started putting them together.

I need to decide if I want them set like this:

Or like this:

The purpose of the trip was to attend my nephew’s wedding. I gave them this quilt and they loved it!

I also brought along a quilt for my niece for her high school graduation.

She liked it!

Have a wonderful day!

Printed Fabric Panels

Have you ever used panels in quilts? My first “quilt” was a pre-quilted Snoopy panel and I only had to add binding to finish it. I can’t say I did a very good job of that, but my son didn’t care! I made several quilts early on using panels, but after a while, I began to look on them with disdain. In the last few years, I have come back around and decided I love them again. I used one in this bow tie quilt.

And I have another one that I purchased last summer that I just love:

Well, last week a bloggy friend decided to de-stash a bit and I bought some lovely pieces of yardage from her. When I opened the package, I  found these lovely panels inside that she had sent along as a gift!

Aren’t they amazing? I just love them all! And she could not have known, but they came in the middle of a tough few days. Thanks, Barb!

I hope your day brings a surprise blessing as well!

Finish It Up Friday ~ Metropolitan Fair!

I started making the blocks for this quilt two years ago! Its about time the quilt got done. And it is a big one.  Big enough for a generous pillow tuck.

It was so hard to see the feathers in the plain blocks as I was quilting them. Now that the quilt is washed, they do show up a little better.

I like the way the feathers in the red border turned out.img_7007

And here is a look at the back.

I am so glad this one is finally done and off the UFO list!

Or is it?

I am not entirely happy with the piano key quilting in the border. I am toying with going back and adding more quilting there. Have you ever done this with a quilt that has already been bound and washed?

Have a great day!

More Quilts of Valor!

I’ve been working on these tops for the Stitching Sisters QOV group every chance I get this week. We are heading out of town for a wedding  and I wanted to get as many done as possible before we left. Don’t you love this log cabin?

This next picture shows the colors the best. It is muted and restful.

I used a panto from Digi-Tech called Any Which Way. This is a shot of the back, it is actually navy and the thread is tan.

The next one is in the frame, though I likely won’t get to it until we get back to town.

I like having something all ready to go when I return without having to think about it. By the way, as usual when I am out of town, I will not likely have time to respond to comments. I read and appreciate each and every one, but most of my time this weekend will be spent with family. Thank you for understanding.

Have a great day!

WIP Wednesday ~ Leaders/Enders

Did you see that Bonnie Hunter has announced her Leader/Ender Challenge for this year? You can find out the details here. Last year it was tumblers and this year she has chosen hour glass blocks. Oddly enough, I had already started making hour glass blocks back in May and have been using them as leaders/enders of late.

I am up to 132 blocks that will finish at 5 inches. I have 16 more cut out and ready to sew.

Now, do I cut some more? Or just find another leader/ender project.

I could make a decent size twin quilt with what I have sewn and cut now if I add borders. But I also have more of these repro 1930s prints stashed away that I could cut up.

Decisions, decisions.

Another QOV

It took most of the day, but I finished the second QOV and I’m quite pleased with how it turned out!

I loved this top as soon as I saw it. I decided to custom quilt this one with freehand continuous curves and feathers.

I added swirls and feathers in the corners.

Now, on to the next!

Have a great day!

DWMonday

I finally got started on the QOV tops for our Stitching  Sisters group. Before church, I got this lovely top loaded and one row quilted. After company for lunch followed by a walk, I got most of the rest done. A short nap, and I finally finished it!

This top was made by Val and it is beautiful as always. My pictures do not do it justice. I used a Panto called Eagles Landing from Digitech and Cool Grey thread by Glide.

Next is a top by Lynda. I haven’t quilted any of her tops before. Isn’t this one a beauty?

So this is the design part of my day, how will I quilt this one? Stay tuned! Isn’t that an old fashioned phrase?

Have a great day!
