Slow Stitching Sunday

I’m finishing up the binding on my little quilt today.

It shouldn’t take long. Then I’ll be back to working on my Liberty hexies.

Have a happy Sunday!

This and That

I came home from my trip to a wonderful package from Ila! She is so sweet. I can’t wait to try out these long arm rulers.

She also sent along this muslin.

And thread and bobbins! Thank you, Ila!

I picked up dog bandanas at the 99 Cent Store. When I opened them, I found this!

They also had this tie for Willy.

So what’s a quilter to do?

That’s better!

My grand dog Winnie has a donut toy that she loves. So when I saw this giant donut toy, I had to grab it for her. She loved it!

Winslow kept watch while I was gone.

Have a great weekend!

Finish It Up Friday ~ Batik Rectangles

I was starting to think I’d never see the end of the batik rectangles I cut from my stash! But I can happily say they are now ALL gone.

My machine binding isn’t my best work, I think I just wanted them done.

Here is the back.

Mmm

Here is the second one.

I really like the back better than the front! Thanks to all who encouraged me to do this.

I like that these two are similar and yet different.

They are the same size, 40 by 48 inches.

These will go into the donation pile. So glad they are done. Have a great day!

A Little Something

Sometimes it takes me a while to get back into the sewing room after a trip. So I decided to make something small. These are the dies I planned to use.

I say planned, because I didn’t need the HST one since I found enough already cut in my spare parts bins.

I did use the 2 x 4 inch parallelogram to cut black scraps.

Just 12 little blocks.

Time to decide on a border. I really like this claret.

Have a great day!

Playing with Apps

Thank you to everyone for your kind comments on my post yesterday. I spent my day on the couch with my Velcro puppies yesterday, thinking I’d get caught up on comments. That didn’t happen! I spent time going through photos on my phone and rediscovered a Kaleidoscope app called KaleidaCam.

I wish creating this block in real like were as easy as making it in this app!

I started with this little quilt I shared last week.

Here are a few other versions.

This next one has real potential for actually becoming a real quilt.

This app is so fun! Here is one with a photo I took from the window of the plane.

I’m sure there are many apps like this out there.

Have a great day!

Moving Slowly Today

I returned from a quick visit to AZ last night. I got a bit of sewing done at Daughter #2’s house while she was working.

I also hemmed curtains for her while I was there and fixed a harness for my cute grand dog, Winnie.

We had a low key week for the most part, but we did have some very exciting news….

My son got engaged! We are thrilled. My new daughter in love is just the best! We even did a bit of quilting together.

She is a fast learner and did such a great job.

She is working on a lap quilt for a friend.

I got to spend time with Big L.

And Little L.

He’s always moving so it’s hard to get a good photo. It was warm!

But that doesn’t stop me from wanting a house out there! It is a dream that I have. I never thought I’d be a snowbird, but really, I just want to spend more time with my kids on both sides of the country.

My goal for the day is to unpack and take a nap. Have a good one!

Churn Dash Decision Time

I participated in a swap organized by Barb at Fun with Barb a few years ago and ended up with 66 Civil War Repro blocks. They will finish at 6 inches. I’m still trying to decide how to set these. I could set them on point like this, or with alternate plain blocks.

I’ve used this setting with four patches. With off white in the blank spots, I’d have lots of room for quilting.

Maybe wide sashing.

Wide sashing with cornerstones?

I rather like the look of this last one, maybe I could use scrappy shirting fabrics for the sashing and keep The whole thing quite light. I really want to get this off the UFO list, so I hope to make a decision soon.

Have a great day!

Slow Stitching Sunday

After I finished hand quilting the vintage hour glass quilt, I pulled these Liberty Hexies back out.

I quite like this shape.

I have enough pieces cut out for 16 more of these “flowers.” Then I’ll decide for sure how to set them together.

Have a great day!

July/August Goals

Time to review those goals!

1. Finish the flag QOV. Done!

2. Hand quilt half the hour glass quilt. Done! Actually, the whole quilt is done! Woo hoo!

3. Finish another UFO. Not done. However, I’m working on two from my list. These Liberty Hexies:

And these tumblers.

What else did I do?

I made a jelly roll quilt for donation.

And I made a mini log cabin.

My goals for August look like this:

1. Finish the two batik baby quilts.

2. Finish the tumbler quilt.

3. Decide on and start my next hand quilting project.

4. Organize my fabric enough to get it all put away. 😳 The piles are getting on my nerves!

Have a great day!

Finish It Up Friday ~ Vintage Hour Glass

It’s done! Thanks to a long road trip, I was able to finish hand quilting and binding this beauty.

I truly enjoyed the process of hand quilting this. It was my first time using the big stitch quilting method, but I’m pretty sure it won’t be the last.

I used plain muslin on the back. I love it for vintage tops and it really shows off the quilting.

The beautiful scraps kept me entertained!

I’m rather sorry to see this one done!

I think I’ll take a nap now.

Have a great day!
