Itty Bitty Bow Ties Part 2

I’ve been looking at and thinking about these blocks on the design wall for the last several days.

If I put them together just like this, it will be too big for the doll quilt swap. I thought I might use alternate plain blocks and use fewer bow ties, but I don’t have much on hand here. Then I found a chunk in my bin of neutrals.

I like this! It might still be a bit too large, but maybe it will shrink enough in the wash.

Besides, I can make one to send and one to keep.

Yes, this is now the plan! Have a great day!

Play Time

I’ve been thinking about the blocks people make, cut up, and rearrange to make something different. I’ve also been pondering southwest designs. Suddenly, in my brain, the two came together. I started by using these dies.

I love how perfectly the pieces go together when cut with my Accuquilt die cutter!

Here is the back. The dies cut the tips of pieces at angles that make matching them up a breeze.

Anyway, after piecing these, I sliced them in half.

Then I flipped the pieces around and stitched them back together.

I stitched matching pieces in mirror image.

Hmmmm….

Maybe more like this.

Or this.

Had to rip a block, but I’m really liking this!

The fabrics were scraps left on the cutting table when I first got my crazy idea, so this may not go any farther than this. But it’s definitely an idea that I will revisit. I love finding new ways to use my Accuquilt dies.

Have a great day!

Geese Part 2

I started piecing my geese. And here is another reason I love my Accuquilt die cutter.

Every one turns out darn near perfectly.

Sigh….peaceful piecing.

I put them up on the design wall for a bit of play time.

It always amazes me how much they shrink up.

I think I have enough flying geese for a second little quilt!

Have a great day!

Geese Kit

I think we’ve all seen this darling little antique quilt floating around the Internet. It has been on my bucket list for a while now and I finally kitted it up while I was in Michigan.

Something I’ve been doing lately, is creating a note like the following on my iPad for quilts I’d like to make soon. I have no idea what the measurements are for the original antique quilt, but I decide what I want to do and make a plan from there.

This makes kitting up a breeze and I’m much more likely to move forward on a project if I’ve done this. These are the Accuquilt dies I used.

I cut way more pieces than I needed. Don’t we always?

I decided on this border fabric, but I haven’t cut it yet in case I change my mind on the design.

Having something kitted up like this is like a little gift to my future self. Have a great day!

Big News!

Why am I smiling so big? Because I’m the newest GO! Getter for Accuquilt !

Yesterday, I received this big box at my front door. Yay!

And inside?

So much goodness! Let me show you what was inside. I’m pretty sure you can guess what this is….

A GO! Cutter! Woo hoo! It’s the one thing my Arizona studio was missing.

The Ready. Set. GO! Set includes instructions on using the die cutter and this pattern book, along with a pick for keeping your dies clean.

You also get a full size book with patterns by the illustrious Eleanor Burns.

Now a die cutter won’t do much good without dies, but with this set, Accuquilt has you covered. The 8 inch GO! Qube die set is also included.

Here are the dies in the set.

The 2 1/2 inch strip cutter comes with this set as well. You may remember that this was on my list of favorite dies.

I like that they come in this nice protected storage box.

Of course, I had to try it out! I grabbed the two inch square die and some scraps.

I put six layers of scraps over one of the squares

Place the mat on top.

And crank it through! It’s easy peasy to run these through and so much faster and easier than rotary cutting.

And how about that accuracy?

As a GO! Getter, I will get the opportunity to create posts for Accuquilt’s blog. You already know how much I love my studio cutter, I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to put the GO! through its paces.

Thanks for allowing me to share my excitement with you all! Have some great day!

A Different Kind of Textile

I couldn’t wait to share this fantastic find! It is a gorgeous vintage Navajo rug.

Mr. Wonderful and I were out bumming around and stopped at a moving sale. A sweet elderly man was selling the house he had shared with his art collector wife. He had many lovely paintings, but this caught my eye and my heart. I promised him I would take good care of it.

It measures 54 by 77 inches. He knew his wife bought it more than 30 years ago and it was not new then.

It came with a heavy iron hanger and had these rings attached for hanging.

This border is fascinating!

I’ve been doing some research, but I’m clearly out of my depth here.

All I really know, is that I fell in love with it. The colors, the pattern, the sweet man that sold it to me. He was more concerned that the pieces went to a good home than he was about money.

Have a great day!

January/February Goals

I never set goals for January, but it felt like a productive month nonetheless. Here are my finishes.

I also kitted up several projects that I brought back to AZ with me. Time to set some February goals.

1. I want to decide on and finish a doll quilt for the swap.

2. I have a quilt kitted up out of Lotta Jansdottir fabric I’d like to piece.

3. I’d like to get two rows of hand quilting done on my vintage triangle top.

4. Start on a Civil War quilt that I have kitted up.

5. Finish my Itty Bitty Bow Tie.

I think I’ll leave it there. I’m going to leave my options open for now.

Have a great day!

Flying Geese Finish

I squeezed one last finish in for the month! My wonky flying geese.

I took these photos after washing. I think it hides some imperfections, of which there are many.

I do like hanging diamonds quilting.

This idea was inspired by a Pinterest pin of an antique doll quilt.

Have a great day!

Slow Stitching Finish!

I used some thick thread to quilt my Hexie piece to the felt background.

I went back and added some quilting in the interior. I should have done that closer to the seams. Oh, well. When that was done, I used pinking shears to remove the extra felt.

Ta daaaa! I thought this would be perfect for my round table in AZ.

But maybe not. It looks a bit tiny on this table.

BTW, I intended to use wool felt, but I had acrylic craft felt on hand and used that instead. It worked fine, not everything has to be a masterpiece! I also planned to use perle cotton for the stitching, but I couldn’t find mine anywhere! I ended up using an old spool of button thread I had on hand. I tested to make sure it was still strong. It too worked out just fine. I’m always proud of myself when I make to with what I have instead of buying more stuff.

Speaking of using what I have, I used leftover Hexies to make coasters in the same fashion.

Now every Hexie in this size is really gone!

I like how these turned out. And they are already in use.

Have a great day!

Happy Mail!

I received a box of happiness this week from dear reader, Ila. The box contained a fantastic quilt top and another project from “Aunt Ann.” We’ve actually had a lot of rain lately and I haven’t had a chance to take a good photo of the top yet, but it deserved its own post anyway. This is the project.

They are pinwheels! Each triangle is finished with its own bit of batting and the pieces are whip stitched together. The batting looks to be a this flannel blanket.

I hope you can see from these next photos how the blocks are constructed.

The blocks end up looking the same on front and back. How cool is that?

The print in this block reminds me of fried eggs. 😁

These pieces are so soft! I’ll have to ponder where to go with these, but you can bet this project will be finished!

Thank you, Ila! Have a great day everyone!
