DWMonday ~ 36 Patch

I thought I’d have this top together in a day after piecing the blocks. I tried several different solids for alternate blocks.

What I thought would be a great idea, just wasn’t. I even tried this print.

Yeah, that’s a no. I started thinking about just putting them together block to block.

Sigh, I thought this would be quick and easy. Back to the drawing board.

Have a great day!

Slow Stitching Sunday

I’m pulling this out to work on since my hand quilting project is in AZ.

It will be pieced randomly and will take forever.

I should write on one of the papers the date I started piecing.

Have a great day!

Churn Dash

Well, it’s finally on the frame. Time to figure out how to quilt this thing!

I use an app called You Doodle to draw on top of my photos.

I’m not in love with any of these, so I’ll keep working on it.

Have a great day!

Finish It Up Friday ~ Shirting Jelly Roll Quilt

I have a real finish to share! Ta daaaaa!

I love how the quilting made this come alive. It is all “organic” ( read wonky) lines and a wee bit of cursive that reads, “Jesus loves me, this I know.”

It’s hard to read, but I know it’s there.

I used an old piece of blue from the stash for my binding.

The backing fabric was a thrift shop find from a few years back.

It’s a wonky little thing, but I love it!

Have a great day!

We’re not in Kansas anymore…..

…..or Arizona either! Mr. Wonderful and I flew back to Michigan for a couple weeks. It’s cold here! But I have Friday up and running and I’m not complaining.

I had enough backing left from the Hourglass quilt to do the jelly roll quilt.

This saves so much time!

Daughter #2 is taking care of Winslow and Willy for me.

And E2 spent the night already. Here he is trying on the hat I knit on our road trip.

E3 gets his turn tonight and E1 will be next in line. He can’t stay on a school night.

Have a great day!

Shirting Jelly Roll Part 2

I started sewing as you would in a jelly roll race quilt, but stopped when I got this far to take stock.

I measured and realized if I kept going, I’d have four seams left and it would measure about 36 by 64 inches. That’s an awkward size! So instead, I cut it into thirds at this point and sewed this three pieces together.

And this is what I ended up with. It is about 48 by 50 inches, so a generous crib size.

I’m not in love with it at this point, but I know the quilting changes everything. I have no doubt that I will love it when it’s done.

Have a great day!

Shirting Jelly Roll

I gave up on the Hexies and put them back in the box. I pulled out this box of 2 1/2 inch strips cut from old shirts instead.

I grabbed these out of the box and decided to make a jelly roll race quilt.

I squared the ends and sewed them into one very long strip.

When I went to change my bobbin, I found this!

Then Daughter #2 called and asked if I wanted to go shopping. Of course, I said yes!

To be continued…

Have a great day!

Design Wall Monday

These Hexies are leftovers.

From this quilt.

I put these on my UFO list for this year because I felt they needed to be used in something. But what? I pulled them out and counted. I have ten of each. Here are some possible layouts.

None of these are motivating me to start working. Ugh. Why do these little things bother me so?

Hope you all have a great day!

Slow Stitching Sunday

I decided the quilting on my vintage triangle top wasn’t close enough for my taste. So I am doubling up on the lines. This is what I started doing.

And this is how it looks doubled up.

Much better. Have a great day!

Finish It Up Saturday

I finished piecing the batik tumbler top. I thought before I shared that, I would show the quilt that the scraps came from. I made this for my sweet mom in law back in 2013.

The color is most true in the second photo. And here is the tumbler top made from the scraps.

In case you are wondering, the scraps aren’t gone yet! But I am putting them away for a while.

Have a great day!
