Quilts of Valor!

I’m finally back to quilting Quilts of Valor! I picked up a batch of tops from the Stitching Sisters group. I’m only quilting the tops. I do not have any pattern info. Enjoy!

It seemed appropriate to share these this weekend. Come back tomorrow for more.

Finish It Up Friday ~ Jack in the Box

It’s done! My third hand quilting finish of the year, outside of a few minis. The first few pics are before washing.

You may be able to see the blue washout pen markings.

Gotta love that texture!

After I was done with the binding, I threw this in the washer for a short cycle on cold without detergent. I wanted to make sure all the blue pen was rinsed out. Then I added some towels that needed washing and ran the washer again, thus time with detergent. As I was quilting, I decided that the fabrics in this top were strong enough to stand up to that. And here it is!

I didn’t notice until after washing that this block had two different ginghams in it.

Plain muslin for the backing and a vintage cadet blue for the binding.

It feels as good as it looks.

I’m using this one on the couch in the evenings. I used Quilters Dream batting and it is so cozy!

Before I go, I wanted to let you know about another Accuquilt Launch Party coming up on Tuesday. They always have great giveaways for attendees in addition to great info and special deals. Click here to register.

Leader/Ender Update

I am back to working on these blocks.

This is my block tally so far:

And this is the tub of 30s print squares I still have to use.

I will probably quit at 36 blocks. I’d love 64, but I’m losing steam. We’ll see.

Have a great day!

Quilt Repair Process

Remember this top from my bloggy friend, Ila? I started working on repairing it.

This was my first repair. I carefully removed that block with the tear.

Then I took a tuck in the back of the block.

It’s hard to even see the seam!

The seam allowances were so large that I had no problem stitching this smaller piece back into place.

See?

Some of you suggested using some of those large seam allowances for patching. That worked out great!

I don’t think these will be noticeable at all once this is quilted.

Reason came to me and I decided that with those large seam allowances, that machine quilting would be best. I hope to get started with that today.

Before I go, I wanted to let you know about this amazing sale at Connecting Threads . Make sure you use the code, SEW4SUMMER to get the deal.

Have a great day!

Kite Problems

I decided on a vintage gray stripe for my alternate blocks and got this little quilt loaded up.

I purchased these pattern boards a while back and had yet to try them. I thought if I only used half the lines, I could get a chevron pattern. And you can! Except, that I have lots of wobbles.

I decided the wobbles would be less noticeable if I used the complete pattern. It is. But it is still more noticeable than I would like. It looks much better in photos than in real life!

I think the problem is, that this is a big, heavy machine. I had my HQ Avante when I purchased this setup. It was made for that smaller, lighter machine. It worked beautifully on that. The stylus setup fits my bigger HQForte, but because it is a bigger, heavier machine, it has a lot more momentum when it gets moving. So patterns like this with a lot of quick changes in direction mean wobbles. Baptist Fans with long sweeping curves work just fine.

On a happier note, I did find this fun vintage fabric in my stash for the backing.

I always try to use new patterns on my own quilts first. I thought I might use this on a Quilt of Valor, but I am not happy enough with the results to do that. So another happy ending here, is that I didn’t ruin anyone else’s quilt!

I will finish the quilting, then bind and wash before I make my final judgement.

Have a great day!

Kite Progress!

I’m playing with layouts today.

I think I like the alternate block setting best. But I need to find a good fabric for those blocks. These two options are both from my vintage stash.

I think I like the blue plaid best, but maybe I’ll keep looking.

Also wanted to remind you that today is your last chance to register for tomorrow’s Accuquilt Mix and Match party.

Have a great day!

Slow Stitching Sunday

I so love this little Jack in the Box quilt!

It is only about 52 by 65 inches so the quilting went fast. Especially since my son recommend this series to watch.

Yes, I know this is old. I’m not a TV watcher, but I’m enjoying this series.

Now I’m on to the binding phase.

To be followed by washing.

Have a great day!

Trying Something New

I decided to try out this Accuquilt die set. I’ve had it for a while and never used it.

This is what the actual dies look like. they make a 3 inch finished block.

I tried pinning and not pinning. I think not pinning actually worked better for me.

I don’t have a plan in mind for this. But it’s always fun to try something new!

Have a great day!
