Surprise Update

Remember this quilt that was hiding inside a comforter?

It has been reduced to this. I hope to make a mini out of these bits.

And this one?

Also reduced. Thought there was more usable fabric in this one.

I want to make a doll quilt replicating that pattern with this.

Happily, the comforter covers yielded a fair amount of usable fabrics for my vintage stash. These were tied quilts and they just do not hold up like quilted quilts. I think if I hadn’t bought these, they would have ended up in the trash. I’ll do my best to honor the original maker by letting the best parts live on.

Have a great day!

Surprise #2!

Ready for another mystery? I also picked up this comforter at the same sale as the one I showed yesterday.

Looks like someone else had already started snipping ties! I finished the job.

Here is the back. Such wonderful mourning prints!

And…..yes! Another quilt inside!

Even worse condition than the last. But still so fun to see!

Thus is the backing.

You can see this one was also tied. I thought those wide borders might be whisker guards, but nope, they were borders.

Such great fabrics!

Love this indigo.

It’s interesting how thus black fabric deteriorated.

Thus seems a common print for the time, but the base fabric is very coarse.

I think it’s so fun to study these old pieces. I hope you enjoyed these too.

Have a great day!

PS I’ve been cleaning out this summer and noticed the link to my eBay auctions on the sidebar needed updating. It’s fixed now in case you are interested!

How About a Quilt Along?

Deanna from Wedding Dress Blue, cut out pieces to make a quilt like this one that I made earlier this year. Then she contacted me and suggested we do a quilt along together!

I thought that was a great idea! So today, I’m inviting you all to join in and quilt with us. We will give share each step along the way. You will have 1-2 weeks to complete each step before we move onto the next. We are calling this the Two and Four QAL.

Deanna will be giving out directions for the quilt shown above, and I will share directions for making a very similar quilt. It will be the same basic pattern, but uses larger (and therefore, fewer) pieces.

This will run at a fairly leisurely pace. We plan to have tops finished and ready to share via a linky party by mid October.

Your first assignment is to gather your scraps! You will need half light and half dark. Any color you would like! I’m using red, white, and blue as it will be a Quilt of Valor. Easy peasy! Next Tuesday, I’ll give out cutting directions.

I sure hope you will join us. It’s a great way to clear out those scrap buckets!

Have a great day!

And just what kind of pet projects am I up to?

I can’t tell you yet! But I can give you a heads up that I will be sharing all about it on the Accuquilt blog on August 26, National Dog Day!

See you tomorrow!

Play Time

I was putting away scraps and I got distracted. I decided to try out a little idea that’s been floating in my head.

I used this die set.

It’s for making bow tie blocks. But I wondered about making a little quilt with just blocks like this.

I was having so much fun that I failed to take pics along the way. But it wasn’t long until I was ready for some hand sewing binding.

I machine quilted a simple grid with my Pfaff.

That was a fun little experiment. It finished at 9 by 12 inches.

It will make a good mug rug for my morning coffee.

Have a great day!

Slow Stitching Sunday

Instead of working on my Ladies Aid BOM, I focused on finishing these Pomegranate blocks.

I’m pretty happy with how they turned out, but if I’m honest, I don’t want to make any more. I was getting a wee bit bored!

I added this sashing, and now I’m trying to decide on a border.

Yellow might be the obvious choice, but that’s a bit too much. I should have used yellow for the corner stones. But I’m not taking it apart now. I’ll come up with something.

I also wanted to clarify something regarding the Quilt of Valor I showed yesterday. I know the veteran that I gave this to and he still has the quilt and is very appreciative of it. My photo was stolen and is being used by this company . I have nothing bad to say about the Quilt of Valor Foundation or our wonderful veterans. I am angry at a company that is ripping off customers and stealing my photo to line their pockets. I received great feedback from Shasta and will pursue this as she suggested.

Have a great day!

This and That

Hubby bought me my first Lego set and I finished it! How fun!

I left a class last week and saw these beauties on my way home.

My grandma’s cookie jar. I love her!

I found this through a Pinterest rabbit trail. That’s a Quilt of Valor I made! The photo was taken in my back yard. I tried to leave a review, but as you can see, they wouldn’t let me. 😡

This makes me so mad! Ugh. Well, I’m not going to let it ruin my day.

Hope you have a good one too.

Finish It Up Friday ~ Red, White, and Blue

I loved making this little bit in my favorite colors, red, white, and blue!

This print on the back is a very old print from my stash. I also had it in pink and green. I still love it.

It made a great binding too.

I kept the quilting simple.

After washing, I took a few more pictures.

It crinkled nicely, giving that vintage look.

It made a great table runner!

Now I need to kit up a few more little quilts. Have a great day!

Finish It Up Thursday ~ Scrappy Strips

It’s so nice to have a quick and easy finish when life it busy!

I had planned to quilt cables on this, but I messed up and didn’t feel like ripping, so it ended up being lots of wavy lines.

Not the look I was going for, but no big deal. I still want to try cables soon.

I thought I was making another doll quilt, until I threw this on my coffee table. Perfect!

After washing, I like it even better. The quilting did give lots of cool texture.

I would definitely make another quilt with this idea some day. lots of mindless piecing and scrap busting. That’s my kind of quilt!

Have a great day!

Surprise!

Mr. Wonderful and I visited Daughter #3 last weekend. We went to a couple estate sales and I snagged this for a couple bucks. Would you have?

I had a suspicion about this comforter. So when I got home, I snipped all the ties.

And…..ta daaaaa! I was right! There was a very well worn quilt inside!

I opened the end and dumped it out. It is admittedly, quite rough.

Here’s the back.

And the front. I love this pattern!

This is tied as well. What will I do with it now? No idea yet. I may try to salvage the best bits. But it was worth a couple bucks just to solve the mystery!

Have a great day!
