Progress

All my rectangles are sewn together. I had more than I thought!

I started making four patches, in between some secret sewing.

Then I had to try out my idea to see how it would look. I added triangles to the four patches to make these.

Time to try it out.

The plan was to have alternating rows.mill probably need to make a few more rows before I’m sure about this.

Have a great day!

Prairie Star Finish

Did you see the AccuQuilt Live program? If so, then you saw this die released!

I made the center block from this die and the surrounding small stars from the Goose Tracks die. I played around d a bit with settings.

Then I finally got it in the frame and quilted with a simple cross hatch.

The backing was from my stash.

The colors remind me of candy corn.

This little bit will soon be on its way to be auctioned off for the Make A Wish Foundation.

Before I go, I wanted to remind you that this deal ends today. Click here for details.

Have a great day!

Leader/Ender Update

I’ve made a fair amount of progress on my leader/ender project. I started by piecing them into pairs, then into foursies.

Now I have six 80 inch strips. I have enough bits for one more row and maybe two.

I’ve got a plan here, but for now, I need to start piecing from this bin of 2 1/2 inch squares.

I so love having these bins of pieces all cut and ready to sew!

Have a great day!

Slow Stitching Sunday

I finally finished this block for the Ladies Aid BOM.

I’m still behind, but this is what I have done so far.

The block on the lower left is next up. The trees are back basted and ready for applique. The pattern showed a butterfly between them. I’m looking for something else to put there instead.

I hope I can share another finished block next week. Have a great day!

This and That

I found the best tablecloth at Goodwill this week. How cute is this?

I also worked on washing some windows this week. I have quite a way to go with that project.

I’ve been riding my bike a few times a week. I’m still very much a beginner, but I rode it to my Bible study on Tuesday.

I had a couple of these boxes show up wth is week. So fun!

We have oranges! Well, they are still pretty tiny…

And isn’t this beautiful?

I love driving through the older neighborhoods in Sun City. They have such great cacti! I did see two coyotes run past me in one though. It was 10:30 in the morning! Crazy. I was too stunned to take a picture.

Have a great day!

Finish It Up Friday ~ Doorways

I finished this baby quilt and I quite like it. I think I have enough pieces left over to make another.

Machine binding is working out well with my new to me Bernina.

I used the same fabric for the backing and binding.

If you are interested, I wrote a blog post for AccuQuilt. You can find it here.

Have a great day!

Throwback Thursday ~ Hexies

I’ve decided to bring back Throwback Thursdays. I’ve written thousands of posts here, so I thought it might be fun to share some of my older favorites with newer readers. Below is a post from February 2018, as written then. Have a great day!

It’s done! I started piecing this top back in 2013. It is mostly hand pieced, but I did machine sew a few seams.

It isn’t a true charm quilt as there are repeated fabrics.

Here’s a look at the backing fabric. It’s a Robyn Pandolph print I had in my stash.

I kept the quilting pretty simple, just freehand continuous curves in the hexies, and a Gothic arch border.

I rather wish that I had quilted it more closely, but it is what it is.

Many people use The English Paper Piecing method to piece hexies. I’m not a fan of EPP. These are hand pieced the traditional way, by marking seam lines on the back of each piece.

This is where I’m displaying it for now. It finished at about 55 by 70 inches.

Have a great day!

Another Star

AccuQuilt released this Prairie Star die recently. I knew I wanted this one and it arrived this week.

Once again, I started with those wonky diamonds from that vintage kit.

I love how everything lines up so well!

I didn’t use any pins.

It isn’t perfect, and the set in seams were a bit fiddly. But it lays flat and finished at the right size!

I’m not sure how, but I think these two belong together. The yellow and orange remind me of candy corn.

Have a great day!

Strings

I haven’t forgotten my string bits.

In fact, I came up with a setting for them. Sadly, I spent a fair amount of time with this tool. Ugh.

But I’m on track now and it’s growing. I’ll stop when I runout of pieces.

Have a great day!
