Well, this photo is anticlimactic! The day was bright and this quilt has little contrast. Lessons were learned.
It does show more contrast in person.
I love this backing fabric and used some of it for the binding as well.
How fun is this?
It isn’t my favorite, but it’s a good gender neutral baby quilt to have on hand.

I finally have this loaded up.
I marked the border with a cable and decided to do this in the strips.
I’m really happy with the strips. I’m not so sure about the cables. I’m not sure I can do them well.
A messy cable would be worse than no cable at all. So I’m at a standstill until I can figure out what to do here. I really like this little bit, so I want to get it right.

Before I get into today’s post, I want to comment on comments! WordPress has changed the emails I get when someone comments and I’m having trouble responding because the commenter’s email is no longer included. I’m not ignoring anyone, I’m still trying to figure this out. If I already have your email in my address book, it usually isn’t a problem…but sometimes it is. Especially if I know more than one person with the same name! Ugh. Moving onto more interesting things…
I had originally planned to make 12 blocks, but my cutting mistake affected my mojo. I stopped after 9.
I used up as many pieces as I could in a pieced border. I still gave these bits.
This is a new panto for me. It’s trickier than it looks, because all wiggles show.
I do like how this is looking so far.

I picked up this magazine last week.
I’d been planning to buy it for a class being offered via Zoom by Lori from Humble Quilts. She has this lovely quilt patterned inside.
Before I picked it up, I got a text from my friend, Kelly, asking if I knew one of mine was inside. I did NOT know, but you can bet I ran right to Sam’s Club to get my copy! (The news stand price for this is $6.99; it cost $4.86 at Sam’s.)
How fun is that? I made this little quilt for AccuQuilt (affiliate link).
Years ago, I used to have quilts published in QUILT magazine. They went out of business quite a long time ago now. It’s still a thrill to see something you made in print!

After spending too much time, aimlessly wandering around my sewing room, I finally grabbed these dies and a little bundle of five fat quarters.
I didn’t have any white for the background, so I decided to use this gray. Cutting is so fast! But that means you can quickly cut things wrong….I’ll blame it in my head cold.
The chisel die is not symmetrical, so you have to pay attention or you might end up with the mirror image of the shape you want. 🤦🏻♀️
I still like this block, but it wasn’t what I had in mind. Oh well, we are going to make it work.

I haven’t forgotten this quilt!
I don’t know why, but I don’t get a lot of hand work done in Arizona. So I brought this home with me.
So far, I have one row of these giant fans done.
I used a solid off white fabric on the back.

Prepare for picture overload! I’m smitten with this quilt! The first picture was taken after the last stitch went in.
You can see that the markings were still there. This is what I used for marking. I would recommend using the fine line version, but I had this on hand and it worked.
Oh, did it work! One trip through the wash and every bit came out! Please test before using as your mileage may vary. All fabrics in this quilt came from Mr. Wonderful’s shirts, so they had been prewashed.

I machine stitched the binding to the back and used perle cotton to big stitch it down.
Here is a look at the flannel backing.

I included a couple pockets. I stuck my hand inside to quilt that area without quilting the pocket closed.

This was a great travel project and some of the most relaxing, fun hand quilting I’ve ever done. It ended up about 55” by 70”. I’m sure it will be a favorite couch quilt.

I just finished these books. Sigh…. I always wish Laura had written more. Yes, we are on a first name basis. Now I’m reading books about Laura. When I was little, I wanted to be her. I could relate to having a perfect older sister.

When I know a busy time is coming up, I schedule blog posts ahead. I’ve not had tine to respond to comments, but I’ve read and appreciate each one.
This greeted us when we arrived back home.
But in a few days, this beauty showed up, even though it was still quite cold.
It’s taking a while to really get back in the sewing routine, but I managed to find border fabric and finish this little top.
And I’ve chosen border fabric for this one as well.
Mostly, I’ve been working on quilting this one. It is nearly done now.
I have to show you this adorable little quilt that my friend, Kelly, gave me just before we left.
Isn’t that the best? It will hang in my Michigan sewing room to remind me of Arizona. 😊
We’ve been enjoying lots of time with the littles. That is the best part of being back!
