Finish It Up Friday ~ Dancing Dogs

I finished this up before we left Arizona. I didn’t have a lot of sewing time, but this small kids quilt was a perfect project.

It is so nice to have a long arm out there!

I rushed through the machine binding and it shows.

I had a chunk of this bold stripe that was just the right size for the backing. I’m glad that’s out of the stash.

This will end up getting donated somewhere.

Bambi and Winnie gave it their seal of approval. They are my grand dogs and I got to watch them while Daughter #2 and SIL were on their honeymoon.

Have a great day!

Throwback Thursday

Here is another log cabin quilt that is as different as could be than the one I shared last week! This too is a favorite. Maybe they all are? Enjoy!

I started this Log Cabin quilt over two years ago and I am SO happy to say it is finally done!

The blocks finish at 4 inches. I think I drafted the block in EQ but I don’t really remember anymore. The quilt finished at 42 inches square. And it really is square but the wind made it look like it wasn’t in these pics.

 And the back.

I used Warm and White batting, Glide thread, and Superior Mono-Poly. I used a template for the circles in the red border. It has 72,224 quilting stitches in the top and has 848 pieces. I did a lot of ripping on this one. It is one of the few quilts that I didn’t love working on. But now it’s done and I like it. It will soon hang in my hall.

Signature Blocks

I pieced enough blocks to play a bit with layouts. AccuQuilt calls this a Signature block, but it seems the name of the quilt can change depending on how the blocks are set.

Not sure which I’ll choose. But I need to get the rest of these pressed.

Have a great day!

Something New

I planned to work on a few UFOs when we were in AZ, but it seems I just started new things. This time I was inspired by this stack of squares. They are all the same print, but in different color ways.

I used this AccuQuilt die….

From this set.

And this die from the 8” AccuQuilt Qube.

Here is about half the blocks pieced.

Stay tuned….

Dog Blocks

I picked these blocks up at a yard sale for a dollar.

They were not well pieced and the sizes varied greatly.

But I had a plan! I grabbed this die. It is Shape 1 from the AccuQuilt 12” Qube.

I placed the blocks on the die and recut them at various angles.

I think I will call this quilt, Dancing Dogs.

Stay tuned.

Have a great day!

Finish It Up Sunday ~ Monkey Wrench

I quilted all vertical lines and considered stopping there.

But I went ahead and added the diagonals to create hanging diamonds. Because, more is more, right?

Yep, much better.

Looks great on this doll bed!

Such a satisfying little finish.

Have a great day!

Mystery Quilt

I picked this quilt up from a thrift shop in Sedona.

Initially, I thought it was a Chinese knockoff.

The backing is plain muslin and it is minimally hand quilted. The stitching is finer than I’ve seen in knockoff quilts.

I suspected poly batting, and I was right.

After studying this, I think it is a very old top that was more recently finished. The border fabrics seem newer and don’t match the blocks.

The background shows age spots.

For now, it is on the guest bed.

But I think some deconstruction and hand quilting will be in its future. if anyone knows anything about this block pattern, I would love to hear from you.

Have a great day!

Finish It Up Friday ~ Hunter’s Star

That’s a wrap!

The process pictures I’ve taken of this never really showed the true colors. I’m happy to say these are pretty close.

I’ve had this backing fabric for ages. It’s one of those, “what was I thinking?” bits. I’m glad to use it up, even if it doesn’t feel like it fits.

Homespun binding. I was using what I had on hand.

This finished at 36” square.

Have a great day!

Throwback Thursday

Here is another throwback post to share! I haven’t made a lot of Log Cabin quilts, but this remains one of my favorite quilts. Enjoy!

I think it was over a year ago that I cut out the pieces for this quilt!

I used this die from Accuquilt. Honestly, I would never make log cabin blocks any other way. This die can also be used for smaller log cabin blocks or even Court House Steps blocks.

And believe it or not, all the red and green pieces were cut from one length of fabric! The only intact piece I have left to show you is this bit I used as backing on another quilt.

Sorry about the toes! Lol! I did lots of close quilting on this and I love the texture it gives.

I’m not sure you can tell, but I used red thread in the top and bottom of the dark half of the blocks.

Have a great day!

Quilt Keeper

Have you heard of the Quilt Keeper? I had seen them around and was quite curious. Then Azera from the Quilt Keeper family contacted me. They sent me one so I could review the product.

The Quilt Keeper is a rack that hangs over a door to display quilts. It is pure genius!

Assembly was a snap! They sent great instructions, but they weren’t necessary as it is so simple.

This is what it looks like without a quilt. It does not hinder door function. The bar that holds the quilt easily lifts off so you can neatly fold your quilt over it.

Oh, I love this so much!

I’m pretty sure I will need a few more.

You can find more info here .

Seriously, this is the best new quilt display method I’ve seen in years. Right now, you can get three for only $99.

Bonus: Azera sent a code you can use for 10% off your order! Just use the code KTYQUILTS at checkout. Click here to get yours.

Hope you enjoyed this review! Have a great day!

PS Because I love this so much, I’ve become an affiliate. So this post does contain affiliate links, and there is also a link in my sidebar, under Affiliate Links.
