Finish It Up Friday ~ Ladies Legacy

Put a fork in it, it’s done!

I like the layout I ended up with, though I liked the random one as well. I used a pantograph called Ground Cover on this quilt.

Everything came from stash.

Several of you said to skip the border. I compromised and went with a skinny border.

This design would look good on point too.

I don’t know where this will end up, but I’m using it as a table cloth for now.

It finished at 56” square.

Have a great day!

Throwback Thursday ~ Gather

Since I have secret sewing going on, I have nothing to share today. So here is a finish from a few years ago. It remains a favorite of mine. Enjoy this throwback post.

This is a most satisfying finish!

I started the appliqué last summer while traveling. The verse is John 6:12. After Jesus had fed the 5,000, he told his disciples to gather up the fragments so nothing would be wasted.

The background of the front is random scraps of muslin. I also used muslin on the back.

I initially wanted a red binding, but I ran out. I am really pleased with this tan. It frames the top without competing.

You can really see the different muslins in this photo.

I’m enjoying this in my family room for the time being.

Have a great day!

Progress

I’ve been enjoying time in my AZ sewing room this week.

Progress is being made!

I played with putting the lights in the middle.

Now I’m trying to figure out borders.

Maybe I should skip borders….hmmm….. Stay tuned.

Have a great day!

Marker Testing

I picked these kid’s washable markers up recently. I wanted to see if they would work for marking quilting.

I grabbed a piece of white fabric and made long lines. I kept the marks in the same order that the markers are in the box.

I ironed the bottom half and noted that with a permanent marker. Then I threw this piece in the washer with a load of laundry.

I’ve used the marker shown below with good results, but I haven’t found any lately in the places I shop.

So, want to see my test results? Here is my sample after washing and drying.

Even the area that was heat set came out clean! As always, your mileage may vary.

Have a great day!

Something New

I’ve had a couple of these charm packs for a while now. I love this line!

I decided they were perfect for a simple quilt using these AccuQuilt dies from the 8” Qube.

It feels good to be sewing again!

This is where I’m headed with this.

Of course, everything is subject to change. 😊

Check out this fun AccuQuilt Live program coming up tomorrow!

Register here to get in on the prize drawings. I have this die and LOVE it! Hope to “see” you there!

Have a great day!

Vintage Blocks

Last summer, Kevin the Quilter sent me these amazing blocks!

They had been given to him, but he knew I would enjoy finishing them up. The hand stitching is so pretty!

I debated for a long time on whether to add sashing. In the end, I just put them side by side.

I love this! I’d really like to hand quilt it. Maybe next winter? It’s definitely next on my list when I get back to handwork.

Have a great day!

This and That

Greetings from Arizona! Willy and I flew out here yesterday. It was his first time flying and he did a great job!

I forgot to share this adorable little machine that has joined my collection. I love that color!

This is a recent read that I highly recommend. I could not put it down!

We brought this little cactus back from AZ and it finally bloomed in Michigan! It is just gorgeous!

I saw this lovely bit, but my pockets are not that deep.

I finally finished my dish cloth.

And the best news of all, Daughter #2 is getting married! We are gaining a wonderful new son!

Have a great day!

Finish It Up Friday ~ Little Red Baskets

My Little Red Basket quilt is done. I’m chuffed to bits with it!

I quilted all the lines in one direction, removed the quilt from the frame, turned it 90 degrees and reloaded it. Then I quilted all the lines in the other direction.

Basically, you are quilting the whole thing twice and it’s a fair amount of work, but it’s worth it. You can see I used a very old print on the back.

The various whites I used in the background show up more in real life.

It’s a simple, humble, little quilt and it just screams SUMMER to me.

Have a great day!

30s Bricks

Good Morning! I’m traveling this week so if you’ve asked a question, I’ll try to get responses out by the weekend. In the mean time….

Remember this? I actually got the top mostly pieced back in AZ.

Anyway, I’d like to add a border.

I’ve pulled out these four solid greens, but I’m still undecided.

I should be thinking ahead to binding as well. I’d like to get this done soon,

Have a great day!

My Treasure

I spotted this quilt top from across the building at the antique fest. It had to be mine!

Just look at these fabrics!

Sigh….so lovely! It does have a handful of pieces that need to be replaced. I think this is the worst one.

Here is the best photo I could get of the whole thing on a rainy day.

It doesn’t lay quite flat. Someday I will hand quilt this one!

Have a great day!
