Carl

I said this project needed a name so, Carl it is! I have my four strips done.

And I set them with the green strips in between.

I tried narrow yellow borders at the top and bottom, but that didn’t work. I’ll add green borders all around and the top will be done.

Have a great day!

Leader/ Enders

This photo shows one column all put together, but not yet squared off. I thought I’d show you how I’m doing that.

I took my ruler and sliced it!

I made sure I cut between points.

Then I just switched the two pieces around and stitched one last diagonal seam.

I may go back and trim so those points are a quarter inch from the edge.

Ta daaaa!

Two down, two to go.

Before I get back to sewing, it isn’t too late to register for today’s AccuQuilt Live program!

Hope to see you there! Have a great day!

Lemoyne Star

I’ve been debating a new project with this die, so I took a little time out from the leader/ender project to give it a go.

My thought was to use repro 30s fabrics for the Star points and different solids for the background.

I decided to make a block to try it out. There are no set in seams with this block. You make 4 of each triangle as shown below.

Sew 4 units like this.

Rotate and sew together to form the Star.

Very easy. But I could have had my center come together better if I had paid more attention to pressing.

It’s okay, but I’m not in love with it. Maybe because the version in my mind was scrappier. It will get set aside for now.

Have a great day!

Packing For AZ

It’s almost time!

I’ve been setting aside things to take to AZ ever since we got back! But we are flying rather than driving, so many of those things will wait. But you know I’m packing some quilting stuff. Here is one of my suitcases.

Lots of dies and some fabric, pantographs, a few UFOs, and two books.

I didn’t spend as much time getting projects organized and prepared to take this time. Now that I have a decent stash there, I don’t really need to. It is more about deciding if I want to finish a current project now or later.

The joy of having a house there, is that I don’t have to pack any clothes!

Here are our carryons.

I better get back to work.

Have a great day!

Welcome QAL Finish!

It seems silly to call this quilt Welcome, unless you know what it was supposed to be!

This is the picture from the pattern cover.

So, what happened? I used spool blocks in place of the letter blocks. Decided to use alternate blocks, which required making a couple more pieced blocks. Then I chose a plain border. What can I say? I’m terrible at following patterns.

Baptist Fan quilting for the win! By the way, my quilt finished at 57” square.

And though it doesn’t look like it in this photo, I used a scrappy binding and a solid backing.

It just wanted to dance in the breeze!

A big thanks to Lori for another great QAL. I’ll add Lori’s link as soon as she posts so you can see the other finishes from this QAL.

ETA: The link up is here!

Have a great day!

Throwback Thursday

This post dates back to August 2021. Not terribly long ago, but I thought it was a Christmas quilt without being in your face. 🤣 Enjoy this look back and have a great day!

This quilt has been on my bucket list for ages! I finally pieced the top last winter in Arizona.

I knew I wanted to quilt it with lots of feathers, but I was so afraid of ruining the top, that I procrastinated.

Last week I told myself, no more! I marked my top and got to work. I only marked the spines with a chalk pencil. All feathers were free handed.

My feathers are far from perfect, but I like the overall effect. I used thread to match the fabric because I knew I’d have back tracking and I wanted to minimize how noticeable that would be. What I didn’t realize is that the red thread would not behave as well as the green.

My corners sort of match! This finished at about 45 inches square.

I think now I want to put feathers on everything! I just haven’t done them in a while and I lost confidence in my ability to do them. I definitely need practice, but I’m okay with how it turned out.

I love this color combination. I might have to make a bed quilt like this some day.

Have a great day!

PS Today is the last day for this AccuQuilt deal.

And did you see this? I have a new pattern out on the AccuQuilt site for their newest die.

Check it out!

Leader/Ender – More Progress

I cut all the little triangles needed for the sides of my strips.

This is the die I used. It is a bit oversized.

This is how I stitch them to the ends of the strips.

All the seams in each row are pressed in the same direction. Then by flip flopping pieces, I end up with all intersections nesting.

I do end up trimming just a bit. It really doesn’t take long.

Time to lay out strips! I’m grabbing and sewing here. My only goal is to not have like fabrics next to each other.

I’m loving this so far!

The chrome yellow looks great with the green.

Back to work! Have a great day!

But before I start sewing, today is a die release AccuQuilt Live program! I’m very excited as you might just catch a project from yours truly. 😁 click here to register.
