Come Hike with Me!

Are you ready? We are hiking the Gray Fox Trail at the White Tank Mountain Regional Park. It is one of my most favorite places on earth.

I don’t know what this bird is, but she has a lovely song!

Desert Marigolds are beautiful as well.

Oh, how I wish these old Saguaros could talk! The history they have seen!

I love how the light filters through the spines of the cholla. They look so soft and fuzzy…..let me assure you, they are not! You’ll need pliers to get them out of your shoes or flesh!

Here’s a closer look.

I love the endless variety here!

How crazy is this?

You never know what you will find along the way.

Happy trails!

This and That

I hung this quilt hanger in my sewing room this week. I love this style because you don’t need a sleeve for your quilt and they are so easy to change out.

The skies have been lovely this week!

Daughter #2 has been letting me ride her bike. Such fun!

Another puzzle finish.

The mister’s roses have been glorious!

I saw this on a recent walk in my neighborhood. I know the spiders here can get big, but this is ridiculous!

Have a great day!

Finished It Up Friday ~ Robbing Peter to Pay Paul

Done! This ended up about 28” square. Those fabrics are just so fun!

This is the back. I probably picked this up at Goodwill some time in the past.

I ran out of black bobbin thread and used an orange to finish the piece. Can you see it? I can’t find the cord for my long arm bobbin wonder. Ugh.

The matchstick quilting gives good texture, while remaining in the background.

This has given me ideas for more quilts with this die set.

Love that binding fabric. It made a great frame without screaming, “Look at me!”

Have a great day!

Rearranging

I needed to evict the dust bunnies from the sewing room. So I decided to rearrange things at the same times. You can see the before pics here.

And here is after.

I still need to level the long arm and sort the fabric baskets. It may or may not stay this way, but at least the dust bunnies are gone.

Have a great day!

Robbing Peter

I thought I’d share a bit more detail about building the blocks for this process. I would never make this block without the dies! Having said that, it still takes care and practice.

I tried lots of pins, a couple pins, and finally, no pins at all. That worked best for me. Your mileage may vary.

I start by lining up my pieces like this, with the concave piece on top and a quarter inch of the melon showing.

I take a couple stitches and then I just go slowly, adjusting every few stitches. There are matching points in the center of each piece so I can tell if I’m on track.

I press seams toward the melon shape.

This is what the back looks like so far. I’d like to say I used white thread to make it easier for you to see the seam, but I was just lazy.

I made a few blocks like this as well.

Then I cut them in two.

These will be used as border blocks. Stay tuned.

Have a great day!

Leader/Ender Project

Since I was having a hard time getting motivated to work on this, I decided to use it as a leader/ender project.

Perhaps I can get the boring bits done this way and move on to the fun parts.

Progress is progress , no matter how small!

As a reminder, this was my plan for these.

As always, this is subject to change.

Have a great day!

Robbing Peter to Pay Paul

I found these fabrics at a thrift shop last week. I HAD to rescue them!

And I have an idea for them. I picked up these AccuQuilt dies last fall. The one on the right is actually a two die set.

Cutting was as easy as expected.

This is where I’m headed…..I think.

Have a great day!

Slow Stitching Sunday

Remember last week when I showed this picture?

I got some advice on Instagram about soaking the offending bits to remove the bleeding.

I added a bit of this to the water.

I had already removed and replaced these pieces, but I thought it a worthwhile experiment. Thus is how it looked after.

It is much better but not completely gone. I went ahead and stitched all my pieces into one unit.

Time to start working on another section.

Have a great day!

This and That

Here is a great chuckle to start your weekend! This text is from Daughter #1.

Whenever I need a smile, I’ll go back and read this!

I left my motorcycle in Michigan this winter. My dear Daughter #2 has been letting me ride hers. But I still check out ads every day. I found this one…..

I think I’ll save my money for now. 😂

I love the sound of these flying over my house! The sound of freedom!

Another puzzle done.

E3 (the cactus lover) got me these socks for Christmas. I’ll be wearing them year round!

Mr. Wonderful installed this dog door so we don’t have to take the one in the patio door in and out. Willy is very cute, but deserving of the title, Fluff for Brains. It took him weeks to finally figure this out!

Have a great day!
