I told you already that’s Lori at Humble Quilts is hosting a String Along this year. It will run for ten months. In order to make the quilt I want, I need to make 8 of these each month.
I’m a bit worried about my scraps holding out. This is all I have left of my dad’s shirts. I think I started with 30 shirts so there isn’t a lot of variety.
I was using muslin as my foundation layer, but then I thought it would be a great place to use some older, no longer loved fabrics from the stash.
I was a bit worried about shadowing, but it is going well so far.
This is the back.
Looks like I have half of the blocks done for next month!
I’m keeping this bin next to the sewing machine and it’s easy and quick to do a block here and there.
Have a great day!
How precious to use your dads shirts! I love your string diamonds!!
Oh goodness – I really really really love those – it will be cool to watch this one come together!
I wish I had a grip like you do!!! I have the beginning of the string along, and Sujata’s unconventional…etc and 21 UFOs and no energy….send me some of your energy please !!!!
Great string diamonds. I’m using the same approach – strings in bins by my machine. They are addicting!
You know if you DO want more variety, you could go to Goodwill and pick a couple of the color-of-the-week shirts on sale to add in. I probably have two dozen plaid shirts from there as part of my plaid stash. On rare occasions, I find a print I like, too. I like the diamonds you are using. Will a solid fabric go in the in between places?
I like your blocks. I have a UFO inherited from my grandma where she started with grandpa’s old shirts. You have inspired me to add this to the prioritized UFO list (as opposed to the someday UFO pile 😊). I will be looking forward to your updated photos.
Your blocks look great! I am interested to see how this project goes.
I wish I was as organised as you…… but then organised is a dirty word in my book…… lol.

When you said you were using unloved fabric on these blocks, I was thinking NOO, not with your Dad’s shirts, but I see you are using them for the foundation. Great idea! Reading your sentence again, I see that is what you said, but I read it too quickly to get that.
