Early this summer, I picked up this card catalog at a garage sale.
It took me some time to decide what to do with it, even though I’ve always wanted one.
The first step was disassembly and removing hardware.
Then sanding. Yuck!
Finally came painting.
This is the paint I used. It is a flat black and ended up giving a great satin finish.
I ordered some short legs to add to the bottom and I plan to upholster the top.
Time to shop for some fabric. Have a great day!
I’ve always wanted one, but don’t shop sales often enough to find one. Congrats! It is beautiful.
I bought my 30-unit Library Bureau model in the early 1990’s. It dates to the 1920’s–my library had the original correspondence documenting the purchase, including LB’s stain samples. (Wish I’d kept those.) I use it to store thread and notions. Enjoy your piece of library history!
Oh! I can’t wait to see what you are doing with this!
You really have me curious! 🙂
I hope you post your finish on this project. I already know it will be terrific!
Hi Katy! I have ALWAYS wanted to card catalog. I love using them, love all the little drawers, love that they are so durable and sturdy. Oh man, I can’t wait to see how this finishes up and what you’re going to repurpose it as! ~smile~ Roseanne
