My friend, Zenia, asked me to quilt this crazy quilt for her. It was given to her. It is made mostly from polyester double knits, with a few odd pieces of courduroy and other bits.
It was foundation pieced onto some type of fabric, not sure what. See that “patchwork” bit below? My sister and I had tops made from this when we were little!
I kept the quilting very simiple with just a large meander. It was my first time quilting a top like this!
The print in the next photo shows the backing fabric.
Have a great day!
Well, that’s a unique quilt. No one else will have one like it ever. I hope this gets lots of love with your great quilting. ~smile~ Roseanne
I was curious to see how polyester quilted since I have a box of it from my grandmother. Looks okay to me. I had a dress from that fabric too but with a darker blue background!!
When I was younger our neighbor worked in a clothing manufacturing plant not far from our home. It was in the polyester hey-dey and many a quilt was patched together from the huge bags of cuttings she would bring home and distribute among her quilting neighbors and friends. This brought back those memories. And the quilts NEVER wear out!! : )
Very different but your quilting looks great! Hugs,
I remember that patchwork fabric from my early days of quiting
I remember double knit polyester quilt blocks and quilts as I was growing up. Mostly the church ladies making them for donation or care quilts. I’m sure it was quite a bit easier to sew them with stabilizer on the back!
I think a lot of quilters have or had a double knit polyester quilt at one time or another. The colors were vibrant, rarely faded, and very warm.
The great thing about double knit polyester……it doesn’t wear out! I really like the abstract pattern in this quilt. Has your friend come up with a name for it?
