Design Wall Monday

A few weeks back, I did something I said I would not do. I bought another Moda Scrap Pack. This time, it consisted of strips from the Miss Kate line by Bonnie and Camille. I trimmed all the strips to 2″ wide with my strip cutter die. I had just enough to make 72 of these 4 1/2 inch blocks.

I am debating setting them like this or alternating with solid white blocks to make a bigger quilt.

I worked on quilting my latest shirting quilt this past weekend. I am quilting a wonky grid through the triangles.

And I have been practicing McTavishing in the white space.

Clearly, I have not mastered the art of McTavishing! And why didn’t I use white batting? The seams are shadowing badly. Hopefully washing the quilt when finished will help that.

This quilt was finished quite some time ago and is finding a new home this week. Some friends of ours just welcomed a new baby into their home and this will be for him.

  1. Nice score with the scrap bag!

  2. You have some great eye candy today. The strips make such a statement in such a simple quilt. I particularly like the red and turquoise together. And, the shirt quilt. wonderful. Your Mactavishing looks pretty good to me.

  3. Another scrap bag 🙂 You get so much done! Love Miss Kate and again, I love that shirtings quilt!! Also don’t think I’ve met a star quilt that I don’t like 🙂

Love the Bonnie and Camille, looking forward to seeing what you do with it, if you add the white blocks there’s room for more Lovely Mctavishing!

  5. Nann Hilyard says:

Perhaps orient the rail fence blocks in groups of four, so that one color (red?) makes a pinwheel. Then sash each group of four with white. [Easier to show than to describe!]

cute baby quilt. wow the quilting looks great. love the new quilt , great fabric line
I think I might like the white in there to break up the colors a bit. maybe put a row of white squares up there to see what it would look like. just mho !
