Throwback ~ Scrappy Rectangles

This post is from June 2016. It has been one of my most popular posts ever! I hope you enjoy seeing it again. Have a great day!

This is a big finish today! I wouldn’t have gotten it done except that hubby is out of town on business. My house is a mess, but my quilt is done! The first two pics show the quilting before washing.

I got that backing at JoAnn’s with a coupon. It is really quite a nice fabric.

If you remember, I was toying with the idea of adding a border of some sort. I ended up not doing that, but thought I would try a wider binding instead. I cut my strips 3 1/2 inches wide instead of my normal 2 1/2 inches for binding. Does this fabric look familiar?

I pulled it to use in my Military Mystery quilt, but I saw it when looking for a binding fabric and grabbed it for this instead! I found another navy to use for the mystery quilt that I like better anyway.

I rarely prewash anything any more, but I do have some prewashed pieces in my stash. This blue polka dot was one. The rest of the quilt was unwashed fabric. So I decided to wash the quilt before binding so the quilt wouldn’t shrink more than the binding, leaving a ruffled edge. I have done this before with decent results. I have also skipped this step and was not happy! So here are the finish pictures. Tadaaaa!!!

The only scraps I didn’t use were civil war repros. Everything else went in:

Here’s a shot of that wide binding:

The scraps finish at 1 1/2 by 3 inches. I just love the texture this panto gives!

It’s living on the guest bed for now.

Throwback Thursday ~ Bow ties

Here is a post from 5 years ago. Looking at this, makes me want to make another! Enjoy!

I signed up for a doll quilt swap on Instagram hosted by @tossedbutnotsunk aka Jenny B. I found out about the swap while I was piecing these blocks in December and decided if this little quilt turned out well, that I would send this to my swap partner.

I’m not 100% happy with my backing fabric, just because it doesn’t go as well with my binding as I would have liked.

You may remember that most of the pieces for this were cut down from these vintage blocks.

I replaced some bits from my vintage stash as needed. I hand quilted it.

Once it was done, I washed it in the sink with a bit of Dawn dish soap. You never know how these old fabrics will stand up to washing. I’ve had some fall apart completely or change color.

Here it is after washing and drying.

I’m happy to report that it turned out just fine!

That little bit of shrinkage adds just the right touch. I hope my swap partner likes it. It isn’t due for some time yet, though it is nice to have this done and ready to go.

Have a wonderful day!

Remember this? ~ Little Basket Quilt

Here is a finish from 5 years ago. I still love this one! Enjoy!

I’ve finished my little basket quilt!

It actually ended up larger than a lot of my little quilts. It is approximately 25 by 29 inches, too big for my doll bed. Here are some pics before washing.

The vintage black coat I started with had this one brown stain on the corner of the basket.

When I took this photo of the back, I realized I missed a line of quilting.

Here are after washing pics.

The stain is lighter, but definitely still there. I’m okay with that.

I machine quilted this on my longarm, Friday.

Have a great day!

Oops!

I needed a break from packing, so I decided to make a few 9 patches for the Mini 9 Patch IG Challenge.

But I used the wrong die, so these are two big. Ugh.

I didn’t want the rest of my cut pieces to go to waste, so I ended up making bow ties out of them.

I used these dies from my AccuQuilt 5” Qube and Companion set.

These little bow ties finish at 2 1/2 inches.

I don’t know how many I’ll make, but it is a nice break from the chaos.

Have a great day!

2023 Throw Quilts

I made quite a few throw quilts this past year and gave nearly all of them away! I love making quilts this size.

Have a great day!

Goodbye, Friday!

My beloved friend, Friday, has been adopted.

I still have Harry 2 out in Arizona.

I may keep looking for a new home for him as well. I told myself, if I sold them both, I could get something new.

I tried out a few at the AQS show last fall, but there are a few more I want to try before making a decision. I’m in no rush. I’ll have plenty of unpacking to do when we get back to AZ.

Have a great day.

This and That

I picked up this weird piece of fabric at Goodwill.

It kind of hurts my eyes!

The last puzzle I finished in AZ.

I love eating outside! I’m ready to do this again soon.

This was my top nine photos from Instagram last year.

Have a great day!

Finish It Up Friday ~ Improv Mini

I did most of the stitching on this while sitting with the mister when he watched TV. It was a fun little make!

In the next photo, you can see the stitching I originally did in the red triangle. I hated it. I stitched the rest and then took that part out.

This is what I ended up with. Much better. I did find that random stitching like this is harder than it looks.

And it looks terrible on the back! Yuck!

But overall, I rather like this little bit. It finished at about 7 by 10 inches.

The texture is wonderful.

Have a great day!

I’m so pleased with how it turned out. It is approximately 76 inches square.

What is going on?

They say things get worse before they get better. I’m beginning to see “better”!

Some progress has been made.

To this:

To this:

Just don’t look at the rest of the room!

Mr. Wonderful and I have been back in Michigan working on getting our house ready to sell.

We feel a bit like Noah getting the ark ready. We are packing, but have no idea what comes next or where we will land.

Have a great day!
