A puzzle!

Does this look familiar?

My dear daughters had this made from a picture of one of my quilts!

How cool is that? I love the tin it came in too! They sure surprised me this year. I have a big party here this weekend but Sunday evening it will be puzzle time!

Not as far along as I had hoped…

…but I got the borders on and the border marked for quilting.

20130226-112559.jpgI used a new to me product for marking.

20130226-112635.jpgI found this a while back at Tuesday Morning, one of my favorite stores. Basically it is chalk in a spray can. I used scrap paper to mask areas where I was concerned about overspray. It went pretty quick and is very easy to see. I hope my quilting looks as good as the marking!
This morning I got it loaded into the frame. I hope to quilt some during my breaks from carpet cleaning. Yuck!
Until next time…

A finish!

I had a wonderful weekend! I spent pretty much the whole weekend celebrating my birthday. My dear husband and BFF, Mark, bought me a Kindle Fire!
We went out to eat on Saturday and got takeout last night. DH is getting ready for a business trip to China and I got a lot of sewing done

While watching Foyle’s war episodes I completed this quilt:

20130225-100128.jpg I was convinced that I wanted feathers in the borders but no matter what I tried, my markings wouldn’t show. So I chalked the spine and free handed the feathers. As you can see, they don’t show either!

Oh well, I know they are there! I am happy with how it turned out.
Until next time…

Here I go again…

I bought some new dies for my studio cutter and couldn’t wait to try them out. I joined the Small Quilts yahoo group to make one little quilt a month. Yes, these two things are related! I joined in February and finished my little quilt on time. Kathleen Tracy, founder of the group, casually mentioned that we could still do the January quilt…..
No, no, no…..too much on my plate.
Well, maybe just a small 4 block sawtooth star….I could try out new dies and make a January quilt.

I was watching Foyle’s War and the episode wasn’t over after finishing the first few blocks. So…..

Um, yeah….

February 30th

If my block a day project can be believed, it is now February 30th.

20130223-110046.jpg
I cut all the pieces with my studio cutter. It took a lot longer to pick fabrics than to cut them! I need to decide if I want to cut more or stop here. Decisions, decisions.
Until next time….

What’s on my needles?

One of my goals for the year was to knit one pair of socks every two months. I am a slow knitter! I was t sure I would finish my first pair by the end of February but my trip home fixed that. I started the second sock of this pair last Friday while traveling to Wisconsin. I finished it, except for the binding off, on the trip home. I got it off the needles tonight using Jenny’s super stretchy bind off. You can see a video tutorial on this bind off here.

I started a simple garter stitch dish cloth as it got too dark in the car to work on the sock.

I am linking up with Judy at Patchwork Times here.

Until next time….

QOV Swap

This is what I have been up to today:

20130222-194910.jpg
And those bits are turning into these blocks:

20130222-194954.jpg
These are for a quilt of valor block swap. I will send 12 identical 12″ blocks and get 12 different ones back. I haven’t done a block swap in years and had forgotten how much fun it can be. I have 8 blocks finished and hope to have the others done and ready to send by tonight.

I used my Accuquilt Studio Cutter to cut my pieces. I used the 3″ finished square, 3″ finished half square triangle, and the 3″ x 6″ chisel dies.
Until next time…

Wedding quilt progress….

It’s a good thing I was ahead on my daily Shoo Fly blocks before I left town. I stitched the last one that I had cut out before work today. I am still ahead but not by much:

I also got the borders added and the machine quilting done on the wedding quilt. I just have hand stitching on the binding left to do.

I almost have my laundry finished and suitcases empty.
Until next time…

Almost there….

I am on my way back to normal, whatever that is! My mom is doing much better and we are thankful for God’s grace and the prayers of many. It was good to be home with the family during this time.

Now I am working my way back to normal, cleaning up all the messes left behind in a hurry, trying to get caught up.

In the mean time, check out this great blog post that tells a bit about the Quilts of Valor Foundation. Included is a short but wonderful interview with a WW2 vet. You can see it here.

And because a blog post without pictures isn’t any fun, here are a few from our quick trip to WI, all taken with my phone.

Taking a short blog break

I am off on an unexpected trip to Wisconsin to see family. My mom had a heart attack last night and will have surgery tomorrow. It is time to be with family.
