Design Wall Monday

Well, everyone said to go with the narrow sashing and I agreed! I got all the sashing and cornerstones cut and have some sewn to blocks.

I am really happy with it so far. I need to choose a fabric for setting triangles. I would like to use a shirting fabric but I will have to see what I have. Maybe this one:

20131215-213643.jpg
I think I have enough. No idea yet what I will use for a border fabric.

I am already thinking about quilting thread. Monopoly seems a good choice but possibly Superior SewFine in an off white. Or Premosoft. I just got some and haven’t tried it yet. It is recommended by Kimmy Brunner, one of my long arm heroes.

Today, I am off to Ikea with hubby and Daughter #1 so I don’t know how much of this will get done.

You just never know!

I am linking up with Judy at Patchwork Times for DWM and Lee for WIP Wednesday.

The REAL Studio Tour – Storage

Vicki at Field Trips in Fiber has been hosting a REAL studio tour link up. This week she asked and shared her ideas for storage. My favorite storage containers are vintage enamelware containers like this:

I collect all shapes and sizes but prefer the rectangular ones with lids.

I have a white cabinet where I store my studio dies.

20131215-141338.jpg
The milk crate in there really helps. I need to add another for smaller dies. And this is how I store most of my fabric.

What a mess!

Check out the links at Vicki’s for some great storage ideas.

Farmer’s Wife!

I am finally going to make something for me. Instead of working on the Kansas Troubles blocks, I decided to pull out a UFO. Daughter #1 bought me the Farmer’s Wife book for Christmas 2 years ago. I never intended to make all the blocks. I want to hang this in my front hall and that would be way to big. I made 62 blocks and stopped there. Sure wish I could remember how I was going to lay it out!

I do know that I am going to use sashing and cornerstones. Trying to decide between 1″ finished and 1 1/2″ finished sashing.

I am leaning toward the narrower sashing. What do you think?

Another finish!

I got one more finish in last night before bed! It was a productive day. After I finished at sawtooth star baby quilt, I finished piecing the confetti quilt top and got it loaded on the frame.

I am using another new panto from Urban Elementz called Loop the Loop.

Here it is washed and bound.

This will be for Daughter #1 for Christmas. Hope she likes it!

Have a great day!

Finish it up Friday!

I finished this baby quilt this morning.

20131213-105612.jpg
I used a panto called Amaze Me. It was fun and quick.

Here are some close ups after washing:

Finally, I was able to start quilting this:

Because I finally got this:

My Urban Elementz order!

And I got some more work done on this:

20131212-202303.jpg
I want to get it done so I can try out another new panto.

Also, Daughter #2 got her plane ticket so I can finally do this:

Yeah, I count down the days until I can see my kids!

I have the day off so I plan to get LOTS done today.

Progress

After my reverse sewing episode, I did make progress yesterday.

20131211-220746.jpg

This is the top half of the quilt. I still need to finish piecing the blocks for the bottom half. I hope to get that done after work today.

I ordered QOV labels from Spoonflower and they arrived today.

20131211-220936.jpg
I am not sure if I am supposed to prewash these or not.

No quilting progress on the stars baby quilt that I loaded onto the frame earlier this week. I ordered some new pantos from Urban Elementz and they haven’t arrived yet. Maybe today!

Make it a good one!

BTW, I am linking up with Kelly for Needle and Thread Thursday.

Grrrr!!!!!

I was making great progress this morning; but now…

20131211-111053.jpg

Yeah, that happened. Eight times it happened! I will show you the problem.

20131211-111140.jpg
Not supposed to be mirror images. It might not seem to matter in a block like this:

20131211-111311.jpg
However, it can really mess up your pressing sequence. If I make all the blocks the same way, I have a lot less seams to match.

All the offending units have now been ripped and resewn.

But not without a few grumbles….

Work in Progress Wednesday

Guess what? I changed my mind again! Back to the original plan.

20131211-071221.jpg
I think I like the look of the randomly scattered triangles. It reminds me of confetti. The person I have in mind to give this to has a dog so while I would prefer a crisp white background, the Gray is more practical for a couch quilt.

I made a dog quilt for Daughter #2 back when she was about 7 or 8. She is now 22. She sent me this picture yesterday of her dog snuggling up in said quilt.

20131211-071615.jpg
What a pampered pooch!

Oops!

I ran my errands and stopped to get more gray for the Abbey Road quilt and guess what jumped into my cart?

20131210-115909.jpg
I was at the cutting counter and right next to it was a display of Snuggle Print flannels at 60% off. What is a grandma to be to do?

I did get my triangles pressed and dinner in the crockpot. Now I am off to work. Have a great day!
