Sewing Improv Curves

Here’s my fabric pull for a new project.

I cut pieces that are roughly 11 inch squares.

I layered them in pairs and freehand cut two curves.

Then I switch the middle pieces.

This is what they look like after piecing.

And this is how I press. I just go in the direction the fabric wants to go. They will get trimmed up later.

Four done!

Have a great day!

Slow Stitching Sunday

I have four of sixteen rows done! It’s amazing what a difference quilting makes.

I’ve replaced a few triangles here and there.

Here’s another look at the back.

Have a great day!

Bits and Pieces

I found more bits and pieces hidden in with my hand dyed fabric. This first group has a lot of potential.

Not sure what I was thinking here.

Or here….

Hmmmm…..this gives me ideas….

I’m glad I saved these pieces and can look at them with fresh eyes. I think there is a lot of potential here.

Have a great day!

Finish It Up Friday ~

Ta daaaaaa! A complete finish.

It took much longer to quilt this on my Bernina than it would have on my long arm, but now it is done and I think the quilting turned out well.

You can see here that I faced this piece.

I’m not sure where this will end up yet, but it’s my fave improv piece that I’ve made this winter.

Have a great day!

Scraps

I brought a bag of little scrappy strips out here with me last fall. I sorted them roughly by length.

And started sewing them together.

It’s good mindless work when the solar panel installers are banging overhead.

I have no idea where this is headed, but I have more strips to sew.

Have a great day!

Improv Progress

I got my improv piece all together and started quilting. Here is my set up. I’d forgotten how much drag there is, even with a small quilt.

I started with all vertical lines.

Then I added horizontal lines. I didn’t measure anything. We will call it, organic.

I think this one will get a facing rather than a binding. I’m going to have to read my own tutorial to remember how. You can find it here.

Have a great day!

Saguaro National Park

Last weekend, we took a little road trip to Saguaro National Park. It was incredible! Here are a few of my favorite photos from the day.

I love this place so much! Have a great day!

Sawtooth Diamond in a Square

I’m so loving this color combination!

Time to add more triangles.

And more.

And finally, borders.

Next, I will make binding and then pack this up to quilt on the long arm. I think this needs lots of feathers.

Have a great day!

More Hand Dyed Pieces

I was looking for a backing fabric in my hand dyes. I didn’t find one, but I did come across a few other interesting pieces I had forgotten about.

Some of these would be fun just to free motion quilt. I’ll have to think about these.

Have a good one!

Another HST Project

I’ve been looking at HST ideas and ideas for solid fabric quilts. So I decided to combine the two. I’m using this die and my GO! Cutter.

Since these are the two colors for my HSTs, I’m layering them and pressing them so they are ready to sew after running through the die cutter.

And just like that, I have a pile done!

This should give you an idea of where I’m headed.

Have a great day!
