Getting Back Into the Sewing Room

It’s been a busy few weeks, but I’m finally getting back to the sewing room. I eased back into things by cutting up the rest of my alternate squares for my leader/ender project.

Then I made some HSTs.

I bought a bag of fabric at Good Will and this was in the mix. I think it’s for placemats. I think I’ll finish them for a gift.

I also played around on EQ a bit.

I schedule blog posts in advance when I know I’m going to be busy, so it looks like I’ve been sewing away. I really haven’t, and it can take me a while to get back into things.

Before I go, I wanted to let you know that there is still time to register for this!

I may have one or two projects in the trunk show at the end. 😊

Vintage Block Challenge

Lori from Humble Quilts issued a vintage block challenge last fall. The idea is to take one vintage quilt block and finish it into something. I pulled these four from my collection.

Here’s a closer look at each one.

I have no idea where to go with this, but narrowing my options helps.

Before I go, I wanted to let you know about this fantastic sale at AccuQuilt .

The deal ends at midnight Central Time. Happy shopping!

Have a great day!

Slow Stitching Sunday ~ Ladies Aid BOM

I finally got back to these blocks. The last pattern was released the end of February. Here are the last of the blocks.

I tried to adjust the bird on this block so it looked less like a duck. Someone suggested adding a birdbath and that filled in nicely.

The pattern for this next block has a cat in the middle. That wasn’t going to work for me, so I finally settled on this Star flower.

Another bird block. I don’t love this, but it’s done for now.

I love this dog block! But I simplified it a lot. My printer is acting up and this was the best I can do.

Here are all 12 blocks.

I’d really like to finish this year, but putting this together will wait until I get back to Michigan.

Have a great day!

Finish It Up Friday ~ Orange Crush

This little bit has been done for a while now. It’s time to share it!

I freehanded the quilting, using the piecing as a guide.

I found this subtle gray for the back and used leftover binding from Orange Craze.

I’m loving the texture!

I really enjoyed coming up with two totally different quilts from the same fabric.

Now, if only I hadn’t used up all of that orange.

Have a great day!

Utility Quilting

Moving right along on this little quilt. I grabbed a few stencils I thought might work and a bit of tailor’s chalk.

I used leftover size 8 perle cotton and a big needle. It was out of the package so I don’t know for sure what it was.

I’m loving it so far! Have a great day!

Utility Quilt Experimentation

I’ve been thinking about utility quilts lately. You know, the kind made to be finished as quickly and efficiently as possible. I think a lot of Gee’s Bend quilts were made as utility quilts. Anyway, I found these woven flannel scraps and stitched them together.

Some leftover woven plaid seemed a good border choice.

Yep, that’s working for me. Slapdash, so I can get to the quilting.

I loaded it up for basting. Those little patches?

They are covering little spots in the flannel where new threads were tied in during manufacturing. Like this:

Yes, they wouldn’t show if I had the back side of the fabric down, but I like mixing both sides in this piece. The patches add to the feel.

Hang with me. Hand quilting is next.

Have a great day!
