More Bow Ties

I know I just finished a bow tie quilt, but I love this simple pattern!

I picked up some Kona White and got the background bits cut.

Then I had to sew just a few. These will finish at 6 inches.

I used my AccuQuilt 12” Qube and this Companion Corners set to cut pieces.

I probably won’t get any farther on this for a while.

Have a great day!

Trip Around the World

These are all 3 1/2” squares that I cut using my AccuQuilt Studio Cutter.

This is the idea I’m going for, but I’m not sure if I want to do individual blocks with sashing, or have the blocks all run together. That would require pre-planning the whole thing and very long diagonal rows. I won’t be working on this until I get back to Michigan, so I have time to think about it.

Have a great day!

Slow Sunday Stitching

Growing….

Growing….

Growing….

I still don’t know how big this will end up, but at least I’m making progress. Mr. Wonderful and I are flying to AZ this week and this will be my take along project. I have posts scheduled, so you won’t even know I’m gone. 😊

Have a great day!

This and That

Happy Saturday! Isn’t this a cool block? It’s called Lucky Star and it’s a new release from AccuQuilt .

I wrote a blogpost for AccuQuilt that shows how I used this block.

Having a degree in chemistry, I find these little things very amusing.

I picked up this cup at a flea market in Europe many years ago.

I used it for my coffee on Monday in honor of HM the Queen.

Winslow might be due for a haircut.

Lastly, if you’ve wondered about die cutting, but were put off by the price, check out this deal.

This deal is good until September 30th.

Have a great day!

Layer Cake Tumble ~ Finished!

Ta daaa!!!

I loved making this quilt for Fat Quarter Shop !

It was very quick and easy, but still makes for an interesting quilt.

The gradation I was able to achieve with the layer cake really makes the design pop.

Hop over to Fat Quarter Shop to grab a layer cake and jelly roll so you can make one for yourself!

Have a great day!

Throwback Thursday

This post was originally written and posted six years ago. I can’t believe it has been that long! I really like this simple quilt. It might be time to revisit this. Enjoy!

This quilt has been finished and gifted and now I can share it. Ever have a quilt where all the pieces just fall into place? That happened with this one. I had a totally different plan for this Parson Gray layer cake, but while perusing blogs one day, I saw something that caught my eye. My finished quilt bears no resemblance to the quilt I saw on the Fat Quarter shop blog, but I love it! Sometimes, it just takes a spark and some play for a good idea to come about.

These first pictures were taken before washing.

The background fabric is Aged Muslin by Marcus and I purchased it at the yard sale of a fellow guild member. Can you believe she sold a 4  1/2 yard piece of this? I also bought the lovely flannel for the back from her.

I used a pantograph called African Samba from Urban Elementz for the quilting. Here are after washing shots. I love how this crinkled up! It is so soft and snuggly!

The binding is also Aged Muslin from Marcus. I purchased that bit when I was in Phoenix last month. This next picture is more representative of the true color of the backing fabric. It is SO soft.

I made this quilt for a friend who is experiencing some health issues. He loved it! I hope it brings much comfort in the days to come.

Have a great day!

Welcome QAL

I’m moving right along on this QAL hosted by Lori at Humble Quilts.

What? There are no spool blocks? Well, I decided to replace the 7 letter blocks with spool blocks. So mine won’t say “Welcome.” And I decided to go ahead and make the rest of the spool blocks I would be needing.

Then I got around to making the next two blocks. Looks like I messed one up. No worries. I’m not ripping.

I’m not stressing over colors or placement much. You can probably tell!

Have a great day!

Cutting, Cutting, Cutting….

This is my bin of Denyse Schmidt fabrics. I have a couple ideas for these and finally decided to have a cutting day. I think there are around 50 different prints here.

I start by layering 5 different prints and cutting a strip about 12” wide from each. This is a total of 10 layers. I’m using my AccuQuilt Studio Cutter here. I love cutting 10 layers at a time!

These are the AccuQuilt dies I’m using.

I started with 3 1/2” squares. This is way more than I need for the project I have in mind, but I’m sure I can come up with ideas for the leftovers.

Then I cut pieces for bow ties (I still need to cut the background pieces). I think I have enough for at least 100 here.

Whatever is left after that gets cut into 1 1/2 and 2 1/2” squares (no pictures). Finally, the strings go in this bin.

I’ve reduced the contents of my big bin, but I have plenty left for future projects!

Have a great day!

I love this pantograph.

Time to bind! I’ll be sharing this finish soon!

Slow Stitching Sunday ~ Essential Tools

I’m still working on this bit. Today I thought I’d share what I consider to be my essential tools for hand piecing.

I just started using this. I know it’s for hand quilting, but I love it for piecing. It doesn’t tangle or shred.

I bought this thimble years ago. I love the brass lip on it. I have no idea of the brand. I did buy it at a quilt shop, but that’s all I remember.

Dear friend Ila sent me these scissors. I LOVE these!

When I hand piece, I always mark seam lines. I’m kind of OCD about it. Wait, can you be kind of OCD about anything? Never mind. I use a small piece of sandpaper, a ruler with a quarter inch seam line, and a mechanical pencil. I have a small 6 x 6 stiff cutting mat with a piece of sandpaper glued to the back, but apparently it is vacationing in AZ at the moment.

Such a sad pin! I just use one pin at the first intersection that I sew to. When I get there, I move it to the next intersection. And yes, I use the same pin until it’s dead.

Needles…..everyone has their favorite. When I see older packs of needles like this at a garage sale or thrift store, I grab them. They are inexpensive and it seems they last longer. They are also easy to thread. I do like betweens for piecing.

There you go! Anything you think I missed? I’d love to know what you feel is essential.

Have a great day!
