Hello Fall!

I was messing around last fall and threw together a little fall top for a door hanger. It’s been hanging on my bulletin board, forgotten, until now. I’m glad I remembered it before winter!

I had just finished quilting something on the long arm and had enough backing and batting leftover to quilt this. The top fabrics are all hand dyes.

I used the AccuQuilt Classic Alphabet die to make the letters. I freehand cut the pumpkin parts. The appliqué is all raw edge and fused. The HSTs finish at 2 inches.

Rather than stitch the edges of the appliqué, I just matchstick quilted the whole thing.

I added a little rod pocket on the back for a hanging dowel. I used my regular 2 1/2” strips for binding, but a smaller seam allowance in the front so it wouldn’t be so overwhelming. That meant pulling it farther in on the back.

I left the dowel a little long, thinking I’d add something to the ends. I might just trim it shorter and call it done.

This piece finished at 6 1/2 by 34 inches.

Have a great day!

This and That

Here are a few snap shots from our time in Arizona. I miss it already! I’m not sure when we will head back out.

My fish hook barrel cactus was blooming when we were there.

E3 came out for the wedding with Daughter #1. We took him to a zoo and he loved feeding the giraffe!

And the safari ride. 😊

We got to hike a bit in Sedona after the wedding.

And I took Daughter #3 and SIL to the White Tank Mountains to watch the sunrise one morning.

We also visited Taliesin West, home of Frank Lloyd Wright in Scottsdale.

We had such a great time!

Have a great day!

Finish It Up Friday ~ Dancing Dogs

I finished this up before we left Arizona. I didn’t have a lot of sewing time, but this small kids quilt was a perfect project.

It is so nice to have a long arm out there!

I rushed through the machine binding and it shows.

I had a chunk of this bold stripe that was just the right size for the backing. I’m glad that’s out of the stash.

This will end up getting donated somewhere.

Bambi and Winnie gave it their seal of approval. They are my grand dogs and I got to watch them while Daughter #2 and SIL were on their honeymoon.

Have a great day!

Throwback Thursday

Here is another log cabin quilt that is as different as could be than the one I shared last week! This too is a favorite. Maybe they all are? Enjoy!

I started this Log Cabin quilt over two years ago and I am SO happy to say it is finally done!

The blocks finish at 4 inches. I think I drafted the block in EQ but I don’t really remember anymore. The quilt finished at 42 inches square. And it really is square but the wind made it look like it wasn’t in these pics.

 And the back.

I used Warm and White batting, Glide thread, and Superior Mono-Poly. I used a template for the circles in the red border. It has 72,224 quilting stitches in the top and has 848 pieces. I did a lot of ripping on this one. It is one of the few quilts that I didn’t love working on. But now it’s done and I like it. It will soon hang in my hall.

Signature Blocks

I pieced enough blocks to play a bit with layouts. AccuQuilt calls this a Signature block, but it seems the name of the quilt can change depending on how the blocks are set.

Not sure which I’ll choose. But I need to get the rest of these pressed.

Have a great day!

Something New

I planned to work on a few UFOs when we were in AZ, but it seems I just started new things. This time I was inspired by this stack of squares. They are all the same print, but in different color ways.

I used this AccuQuilt die….

From this set.

And this die from the 8” AccuQuilt Qube.

Here is about half the blocks pieced.

Stay tuned….

Dog Blocks

I picked these blocks up at a yard sale for a dollar.

They were not well pieced and the sizes varied greatly.

But I had a plan! I grabbed this die. It is Shape 1 from the AccuQuilt 12” Qube.

I placed the blocks on the die and recut them at various angles.

I think I will call this quilt, Dancing Dogs.

Stay tuned.

Have a great day!

Finish It Up Sunday ~ Monkey Wrench

I quilted all vertical lines and considered stopping there.

But I went ahead and added the diagonals to create hanging diamonds. Because, more is more, right?

Yep, much better.

Looks great on this doll bed!

Such a satisfying little finish.

Have a great day!
