A New Toy

I picked up a new toy. It looks like a toy, doesn’t it? I bought that beautiful new yarn and quickly remembered why I don’t knit much anymore. My hands don’t like it.

I’ve walked by a gazillion knitting machines at sales over the years. They are very intimidating. But this was a cheap option (Facebook Marketplace) to try it out.

I thought the grands could use it to make hats. Casting on was easy. Cranking it was easy.

Oops! Something went wrong!

I didn’t do a proper cast off since I knew this would get unraveled anyway. This shows about 30 rows of knitting and took a matter of minutes.

I like the way the knitting feels. It is very even, though a bit looser than when I knit by hand. I can see the boys having a lot of fun with this.

It is NOT a replacement for a big knitting machine. But might be a good intro to it. I’d really love a circular sock knitting machine someday, but it isn’t in the budget. I found a used flat bed knitting machine on FB Marketplace, but it’s still $200. A lot for me to spend when I have no idea what I’m doing.

I still think I’ll have fun playing with this.

Have a great day!

Messing Around….

I had a bit of an idea….not a full blown idea, mind you. Just an inkling. But I decided to start, thinking the rest would come.

Hmmm…. I still don’t feel like I’m any closer. Only the seam on the far left is sewn. None of the circles are fused yet.

I’ve got lots thinking to do.

Have a great day!

Finish It Up Friday ~ String Theory

I’m in love with this quilt! I rarely follow a pattern when making a quilt, but this was worth it.

I quilted an “organic” grid of about a half inch across the whole thing.

The backing and binding are from a duvet cover that I purchased.

The above photos are before washing, the rest are after.

Will thinks this quilt is for him….he’s probably right. But he has to share!

Have a great day!

Leftovers

Well, turns out I had more than enough string bits for my String Theory quilt, and then some.

I decided to sew them like a jelly roll race quilt.

And I ended up with this. Hmmmmm……not sure where to go from here.

But my string box is still full.

Have a great day!

String Theory

Well, it’s on the frame! And it has been quilted once….

Removed from the frame, reloaded, and the second quilting is under way!

Have a great day!

Green Dog

My green dog quilt is done!

As a reminder, this sketch by Picasso was my inspiration.

Here is a look at the back. I still have to add the hanging system.

A closeup of the bias tape.

This finished at about 24” by 18”.

Have a great day!

String Theory Progress

I started working on this and just can’t leave it alone!

I cut my string pieces with my die cutter.

I was a bit concerned at this stage, my strings seemed dull and lifeless compared to Sharon’s.

But I forged ahead. As soon as I added the cheddar strips, I knew it would work.

I did start to wonder if I had enough strings ready. I decided to start the other blocks.

And this is where I’m at now. I do have more strings, I’m still not sure if I have enough. If I stop here and put the blocks together, the top will measure about 48” square. That’s a really good size to hang on my wall.

But will it have the same impact as the original? Probably not.

If I finish as the pattern says, it will be about 60” square. Too big for the wall. Hmmmm…

Have a great day!

Slow Stitching Sunday

Slow progress is being made.

I’m now at a point where I need to mark more pieces. I picked up this board covered in sandpaper a while back. I think I’m going to like using this.

I prefer traditional piecing to English Paper Piecing, but I’m sure that would have worked well for this project.

Have a great day!

This and That

My dear Daughter #3 picked up a whole box of feed sacks for me recently! What treasures!

This finish is a few months old, but it was recently published on the AccuQuilt Blog.

The mister and I rode our bikes to the beach last weekend. It was lovely.

Daughter #1 and her family came for a cookout. This is the only picture I have! E2 riding the little quad.

Willy was exhausted when everyone left. Silly boy!

Have a great day!

Finish It Up Friday ~ Tangle 3

You might remember a preview version of this in my crap quota. It really wasn’t terrible, but it was very boring. I chatted with Daughter #3 about it. She said, it was too regular, not enough tension.

She was right. I played around some more and I like this much better.

This is the back. I faced it like the others.

This next photo is a terrible photo of a quilt, but wouldn’t it be cool to add some shadows like this?

Have a great day!
