That is the question I have been pondering lately.

I wrote my first post November 29, 2008. That was well over 18 years ago! I’ve posted 5,134 times. I’ve had 2.7 million views and over 900,000 visitors! I haven’t missed a day of posting in many years.
There aren’t anywhere near as many blogs these days. So many people have moved to the shorter forms of social media like Instagram. I still love reading blogs. I prefer them.
But life changes. I haven’t been quilting quite as much lately. I used to have at least 50 finishes per year. Not this year.
So I’ve been thinking, wondering if it’s time to break my blogging streak. Should I quit altogether? Should I reduce the number of posts/week? Maybe I just need a break?
I would hate to lose this 18 year record, but it wouldn’t make sense to keep paying for something I’m no longer doing.
I’m not going anywhere just yet. Just thinking….
Have a great day!

your blog is a top favorite..would miss it
It’s the first thing I look at every morning. It’s the perfect way to start the day. I would be so sad if you weren’t there. Sharon in South Dakota
I’d certainly miss your blog, it’s something I look forward to seeing each day but please don’t burn out doing it! Maybe compromise and blog less frequently?
I love your blogs because they are a quick read and give me lots of inspiration in that short time. I don’t comment much but always enjoy seeing what you are up to. Less posts a week might be the answer but please include a couple of your Saturday This and That pics. Some of those make me laugh. 🙂 I didn’t realize you have been blogging for 18 years so I do understand why you might want to retire or at least cut back a bit.
I really enjoy reading about your quilting and your interests! Jenny Koehn
Hi! Katie. I can understand why you are pondering the value of blogging. I began in 2014 and quickly found you and several other faithful, generous and inspiring bloggers to follow. Some have stopped posting but many have continued. I think over the years blogging has had it’s ups and downs. I noticed a little while ago Carole @From My Carolina Home had a bit of a wobble about whether to continue or not.
Sadly last year my Mum fell seriously ill and she and my Dad needed a lot of care. Since Mum died I’m still giving extra time to Dad (he’s living with Alzheimers and being supported by visits from family and professional carers in his own home). Writing regular blog posts was one of the activities that went by-the-by and I’ve found it very difficult to resume blogging and even to follow other bloggers as regularly as I did before January 2025. I do miss being active in the quilt blogging community and hope to get back into posting regularly (that would be weekly, certainly not daily!).
Thankfully through all the sadness and busyness I did not loose my love of patchwork-quilting/crafting and those little bursts of creative activity certainly kept me going through some tough times.
I think for me having a complete break has made getting back into writing and reading blog posts difficult even though I do miss doing so. I don’t know if you would find the same? But it should be a pleasure and not a chore or a ritual! Change is ok. If you continue but post less frequently I’m sure your posts will continue to be read and enjoyed by many people. And as one of the other comments says, our blog posts do become a personal visual diary which can be very handy to have!
I would happily read a few posts a week from you….and I would be VERY SAD to have none at all.
Maybe once a week?
I would miss it when you stop!

I do so hope you continue to blog, but I understand if it’s become too much. I really look forward to reading your posts. Instagram holds no attraction for me at all, so I depend on blogs to see what other quilters are doing.
I would miss your blogs very much. I am so disappointed that so many things have moved to Instagram, which is a format I don’t really get. I avoid it and so appreciate blogs, even if the posts aren’t daily. Even three times a week would be welcomed, if you have the time and energy to do that.
I enjoy getting your posts and would hate to see you stop. Maybe cut back to weekly instead of daily. I love all your quilts.
Speaking from personal experience, my blog is my diary which I can search back into when I need to see something from years ago. It is a bonus that anyone else reads it and takes the time to comment. Mine is on the free Blogger platform so I don’t have to worry about cost.
I like to read blogs to get the whole story and sometimes more photos than on other platforms. Some people on IG just show a photo with very few words, sometimes none, and it leaves me wondering what is the photo showing? Your blog is like getting a personal letter in the mail from a friend. I feel a connection to you through the blog.
I adore reading your words and seeing all of the pretties (be they quilts or nature).Sent from my iPad
A rich contribution. Thank you for taking the time all these years showing your progess. It has been fascinating. Since it is part of your process it would be a shame if your heart was not in to it. Good to know it has been the top blogging visit for many of us for a very long time.
I came late to your party. I admit to stumbling onto your blog while looking for new blogs after others blogs I enjoyed quit posting. I have enjoyed your posts for a couple of years now and hope your continue but that is your choice.
I also prefer to read blogs, and have enjoyed yours for quite a while. I would be so sad if you quit!
Very good question! I stopped blogging Jan 2025, reluctant to give up something that had fallen off way before then. The idea of writing a blog post and posting on IG, and in which order to do so, became too much. Add with a desire to be productive w/quilting, try new things, and still work a full time job…immediately a weight was lifted when I hung up my blogger hat. I use Instagram as a blog, and even though some peeps only look at the photos, I get satisfaction in writing. I’m praying for you my dear friend.
it’s true….blogging seems to be waning…i’m one of few who has endless hours to read blogs and i find them interesting and that keep me engaged with quilters everywhere…but many have busy lives so i understand the trend…i don’t always comment but enjoy reading your blog and your insights…
Let your heart guide you! Numbers can be nice to achieve but maybe it is time to “just be” and create quilts or thoughts on “paper” as your heart guides you!
I’d miss you terribly, but I understand the pondering. I’ve been doing the same, while not posting as much. I do hope you continue, though!
I so look forward to your posts. You have such an interesting life with kids, grandkids, a great hubby, varied interests (cacti, rocks, motorcycles, jeeps), and I really appreciate all the quilts you make. They are so varied and always end up gorgeous. Please continue to touch us all. If daily is too much, maybe cut down to a few times a week, but please don’t stop!!
