Zenia’s Cross Plus Quilt

I’m so excited to share my friend Zenia’s quilt with you! She blogs at A Quilted Passion. She pieced this gorgeous top and I got to quilt it for her.

What I really wanted to show you is Zenia’s amazing use of fabric.

She puts fabrics together that I would never in a million years think of. And it all works! Take a look and you’ll see what I mean.

She’s made some gorgeous quilts, but this might be my favorite. and yes, she gave me permission to share!

When I asked her about it, this is what she had to say.

I think she has a real talent for combining fabrics.

This is the pantograph I used.

And here is the back.

Now, don’t you want to make a quilt just like this? I do!

Before I go, I wanted to let you know about this fun AccuQuilt Live program tomorrow!

Watch closely and you may just see a project created by Yours Truly in the trunk show! Click here to register!

Have a great day!

Thank you, thank you, thank you Katy!!! 😁😁😁 This quilt was so much fun to make! And the quilting shows up nicely on these 15” blocks. 👌🏼

  2. Fabrics you would never put together make the best scrappy quilts! It’s great!

I pretty much like all scrappy quilts but this one is exceptionally fun. Your friend/client did a great job!

What a beautiful finish! My quilting mentor, who is a master at scrap quilting, gave me great advice .”The blocks placed next to each other have to be friends…use your color wheel if you can’t figure it out on your own.” She is 91 and still quilting!

I follow Xenia’s blog ever since she came to visit you several years ago. She does make beautiful quilts. Her use of color is amazing also. Hugs,

    This is a great quilt!
When I first started quilting over 40 years ago, actually closer to 50 years (I made my first quilt in 1975!), I was so picky about what fabrics I would use together in a project, and everything had to be all matchy-matchy. Even if I was making a scrappy quilt, all the various fabrics had to follow that matchy-matchy criteria! Then, somewhere along the way, I participated in a few charm square swaps, and from that time on, something just clicked in my brain, and now anything goes, for a scrappy quilt. It is amazing to me that fabrics/colors I would not even consider using together for my clothes, or for home decor, just seem to work in a quilt. I am so glad I made that discovery because my scrappy quilts are much more interesting now.
Thanks so much for sharing your friend’s quilt on your blog….it is amazing!

It’s a terrific scrap quilt with so many fun and interesting fabrics!

  8. Xenia makes gorgeous quilts. Scrap quilts are so fun, they are a bit like an I Spy with fabric. You added nice quilting to her quilt, Katy!

That’s what I love about “kitchen sink” scrap quilts — everything works in it! That brown print with the red hearts has been in a few of my scrappy quilts too. Always wanted to make one of these and just realized the blocks are very Cube friendly!
