In my last update, I was quite unhappy with my quilting, but I’d found inspiration from vintage Welsh quilts. That caused me to add some echos to my rather spare looking pumpkin seeds. I also decided to ignore the piecing in the large half square triangle border and try my hand at a Welsh inspired border.
The center got a simple crosshatch.
I didn’t take full photos before washing. The blue marking pen I used was very distracting and I couldn’t wait to get it washed out. Here is a closeup of the Welsh style border after washing. Honestly, the quilting hardly shows.
I learned so much making this quilt! And I love it. Even if the quilting hardly shows and it took forever.
As a reminder, this is the original quilt that inspired my version.
Mine is much smaller, only 54 inches square. I used a toile I had in my stash for the back.

i think the reason you weren’t happy with the quilting originally was because there wasn’t enough of it. i’ve noticed you like lots of quilting (i do too). now you’re happy and i’m so glad. great job. patti in florida
Oh, Katy! It’s wonderful. The reds sprinkled throughout make it pop. Dare I say it’s prettier than the inspiration piece.
Oh my gosh your quilting is gorgeous! Some quilts need to be seen from a distance and others up close. This one repays both!
Definitely a quilt worth crowing about (sorry, couldn’t resist!). It turned out so well, and I love the quilting!
It is a beauty Katy, The top and the quilting !
Thank you for showing ! Have a nice weekend.
I love it!
