I was thinking of using this for the doll quilt swap I’m participating in this year, but I’m just not loving it. I don’t t want to send something I’m not crazy about.
I had to stop and baste more Hexies and I made a tiny discovery.
One of the paper Hexies was significantly smaller than the others. I realized this is why I didn’t like my little quilt. It was too chunky.
Hmmm…. I decided I would start again with smaller Hexies. But first I am developing a plan for the ones I have already pieced and basted. Possibly this….
Or maybe this….
There is more to come with this experiment, for that is what this is becoming. It will require black felted wool. I’ve never worked with wool so I have some research to do.
Have a great day!
Ah the hexie choice ….. I am a hexie goldilock. I have tried all sizes from 1\2 inch (too small) to a full inch (too, too big). There were 7/8 inch (still too big). And finally 3/4 inch – just right. The 3/4 size is the easiest on my hands and just feel right. BTW I’m also working on a full 3 inch hexie top and while I like the look I find them awkward sewing them into rows. What I find great about my hexie projects is that I can put them on time out and return to them when the need calls. Have fun with your hexies what ever size you choose. Make them scrappy or controlled.
Hmmm…you are teasing. And I am looking forward to seeing your solution.
