Iceland Part 7

More images from Iceland, have I convinced you to go yet? First, more basalt columns.

This next photo is a field of cairns. Laufskálavarða is a lava ridge, surrounded by these stone cairns. All
travellers crossing the black sand desert of Mýrdalssandur for the first time were
supposed to pile stones up to make a cairn, which would bring them good
fortune on the journey.

Lava fields covered in moss give a surreal landscape.

This was called the Church Floor and was in a small field. There was a huge area of this. It is the same basalt column type of formation as shown above, but it was leveled off. It looks like manmade tile floor! It was pouring rain when we visited here. If you go to Iceland, bring a rain suit!

More moss on lava.

Another waterfall, totally different from all the others.

This was just to the right of the photo above.

These pics were in the same area.

The Sisters rock is HUGE! It is said that two sisters who were also nuns are buried here.

So sad, a sight we missed due to dangerous conditions.

It was this glacier. We had hoped to walk on it.

Still more to come! Have a great day!
